Independent Thinking leads people of not following God's word the Bible.

I think (oops) that I've seen quite a few Watchtower's that encourage Witnesses NOT to give into independent thinking.

Was it Covington or Knorr that stressed "unity" over truth? I forget.

    Hello Jang,

    I do like this part:

"...Critical thinking, however, is not merely negative thinking. It also fosters the ability to be creative and constructive - to generate possible explanations for findings, think of implications, and apply new knowledge to a broad range of social and personal problems. You can't really separate critical thinking from creative thinking, for it's only when you question what is that you can begin to imagine what can be."

    Thanks for the quote,

    JanG,

Thanks for that article--it was very good, imo.

Funny, how the WT articles always used the term 'independent thinking' in such a negative way. Where is THAT in the bible? But it made all of us good little drones and parrots of their teaching, didn't it?

The part on critical thinking is especially helpful for ex-jws. It's really worth developing that skill.

    Thanks!

    Patio

    To fredhall,

You're right. Independent thinking can lead one astray.
I now choose to be a dependent thinker-dependent on God (NOT man!)
