I agree that Paul is a bit confusing in his writing.
With regard to 1Cor 7:29 there is some thought that Paul was talking about the duration of an earthly life.
Some bloke called Cornelius a Lapide wrote
" the duration of this life is short so that we may not think of merely enjoying our wives ( and husbands) and the things of this life , but as strangers and sojourner use them for a short time in order to travel better to travel towards that glorious city in which we shall be enrolled as everlasting citizens "
Another way of putting it
" St Paul here is not saying that the end of the world is near he is saying that the time of man here on earth is short and temporary . That man should not be lured by the things of this world for everything on earth is temporary and passes away. "
In Ephesians 6: 1-3 Paul writes
" Children obey your parents in the Lord , for this is right . Honour your Father and Mother- which is the first commandment with a promise - so that it may go well with you and you may enjoy long life on earth "
That doesn't sound like someone who was expecting an imminent end to the world.
So by cherry picking, as is often pointed out on here, you can make a case for lots of things .
The difference with the WT is that they definitively said that the end would come in the Autumn of 1975 , without, as far as l know , any scriptural basis.
