More money (and time) to waste. The donations themselves are a waste. Assuming they request 10 toilet papers per publisher per week, in a regular month, I could put the money into silver that I keep and get 10 silver quarters. And, if people are donating more, they could get even more silver with that money. Instead, they are throwing away the funds.

Additionally, with the gas and vehicle wear associated with driving 50 kilometers each way (100 km), one could get even more silver instead. That has to waste a dekaliter of gas (10 liters, or around 2 1/2 gallons) of gas per trip, and more if you have a car that gets lousy gas mileage (because of its condition, thanks to no money). If gas is 2 toilet papers a gallon/0.50 per liter, there goes another quarter (a silver quarter) or more per boasting session on gas alone, and even more for field circus. And where is the guarantee that gas will be around 2 toilet papers a gallon? Many places it is closer to 8--or 2 US toilet papers a LITER. Vehicle wear and maintenance is also a factor.

Advice to anyone wasting this money: Stop donating to the Worldwide Damnation Fund. And I mean stop, totally. And skip going to boasting sessions. For one month, put the money you otherwise would have wasted going to boasting sessions (including donations) and field circus into a jar or other separate place. Now, take this money to your local coin shop and buy all the silver you can get with this money. You get to keep the silver. When you get it home, ask yourself if you are really getting benefit equal to or greater than this silver (which you will have stacked in front of you) from going to boasting sessions and field circus, and donating to the Worldwide Damnation Fund. And, if you are planning on doing the Israel trip, put the money it would cost you into silver and ask if it's worth this amount of silver to do something so useless and stupid.

Attention lurking rural JWs - if it hasn't already happened, prepare to get screwed over by the WTS. They will close your Kingdom Hall, you will be driving 10, 20, 30 more miles each way to attend meetings.

Good luck figuring out how to get the overtime needed to pay for gas while simultaneously working less hours because it now takes you longer to get to the Kingdom Hall.

But don't worry - the CO will be around soon to scold you about "supporting theocratic arrangements". That is sure to be most upbuilding.

Semi-rural congregations have also closed in New Zealand and local Witnesses (those who remain in those areas) must travel longer distances to their closest Kingdom Hall. The old mentality has significantly changed from "making Jehovah's name known" in these locations with Kingdom Halls bearing his name to blatant cost-cutting and selling off the buildings that local Witnesses had raised the funds for and built anyway.

From what I hear from family still in, Witnesses in these rural and semi-rural locations are not complaining because keeping a congregation "thriving" in these areas is very difficult - and the few Witnesses - especially the males - were burdened with constantly running the meetings.

What Sir 82 said. I totally agree. Wash, rinse, repeat. Wash, rinse, repeat
