    LIAM:

While this sounds hopeful to all of us….will the GB actually agree to show up? OR will they go into hiding???

    I wonder…

I doubt the GB will end up in prison. Any possibility of that and they would move en masse to Buenos Aries and rule from there. I'm sure preparations and funds have been in place ever since they had the new Bethel built there.

They are being deposed, which is the taking of an oral statement of a witness before trial under oath. It's part of the discovery process.

Discovery is a formal investigation allowing parties to find out more about the case. In a lawsuit, all named parties have the right to conduct Discovery. It will enable the parties to use facts and potential evidence to better define their strategies. In some cases, information learned during discovery helps the opposing sides settle without having to go to trial.

But if it gets more complicated, they might be subpoena to testify. Then they have no choice legally. I think they will try to legally figure out a way to skirt the issue before it gets complicated. They have access to Billions of dollars to pay for the best lawyers money can buy.

But If that fails, I don't see them as being the James Bond "Smart" type of men to go into hiding. They're a bunch of bafoons who just happened to inherit a multi-billion corporation.

If they went into hiding, I can't help but picture them like the Chris Farley type in real life.

"I doubt the GB will end up in prison." Probably not, but huge money to pay out, but that doesn't get the attention of the WTS enough even, they just don't pay up and keep filing up and up until the reach the top, to the US Supreme Court, not yet. The WTS just lets the daily fines pile up.

Can they plead the 5th? Say nothing and own up to nothing?

    Karter.

The problem for the ex-JW movement is that this won’t move the needle for true believers, even if you had video evidence of them admitting serious wrongdoing, at best you’ll get someone saying it’s fake

I don't think I care what "true believers" finally think (if they ever even hear about the cases). I hope the judgements strike WT hard and deep financially and brings them to their knees. You have to "hit them where it hurts".

    Follow the money!

Karter; Can they plead the 5th? Say nothing and own up to nothing?

They cannot plead the 5th. It's not a subpoena where they testify in court, it's a deposition. A legal process where a witness provides sworn testimony outside of court. As I posted above, it's part of the Discovery process

That's exactly the point. Nothing will wake up True Believers. They have to want to wake up on their own.

But what's good about this is the publicity for the whole world to see the hypocrisy of the Religion. Plus it raises red flags for many people to avoid anything to do with the Watchtower.

no zombie; I believe the document stated August 28.

Even if no serious legal consequences come out of this, the experience itself may push the Governing Body to re-think their current policies. That kind of experience, being accountable to a government, the public light, I'm sure it will motivate them in the same way the ARC did. That is, the Australian Royal Commission into child abuse: Even if the Witnesses didn’t face immediate legal consequences, the attention did lead them to make positive changes to their policies. Hopefully, this situation in New York will have a similar effect.
