Jeezus... seems like almost everything they do these days is 'specially crafted to prompt the response: "what the hairy blue f**k is wrong with you people???"...

recovering - A minor can not consent to sex by law?

Yup. Too bad they have their own screwed up law.

Too bad she is only suing for $300,000. That is not enough of a punishment and surely is not enough compensation. - rebel8

I expect she would need to base her lawsuit on estimated damages or losses incurred. If she is successful in her original legal action, punitive damages can likely be awarded by the jury or Judge even though not specified within the original action.

I am wondering if child porn laws also apply to audio recordings? If so elders are guilty.

    recovering,

I am wondering if child porn laws also apply to audio recordings? If so elders are guilty.

Would there be a statute of limitations for that?

She also might be able to sue them for psychological abuse.

Amazing. Side point: I wonder why the newspaper editors didn't catch "duck" tape when I think they meant "duct" tape.

"repeatedly stopping and starting the audio tape ... suggesting that she consented to the sexual behavior."

Nothing like making the victim out to be the guilty party! The guy who did this ought to be taken out, staked by his penis and sack to a tree stump, have the stump soaked with gasoline and lit afire, then throw him a dirty rusted dull pocketknife and let him make the choice. If he cuts himself free then shoot him so he doesn't have to "suffer" anymore!

Yeah, I know that sounds vicious, but it is nothing compared to the harm to the victims of these sexual predators!

user99 Just FYI amazingly due to the overuse of the improper name of duct tape, there is actually now a brand of tape called, yes, duck tape.

I hope the guy, the elders, someone gets nailed for this perverted abuse of a minor.

If this story was from JW Land, they would have disfellowshiped the teenager for fornication and brushed the crime under the rug so the "orgs" name wasn't tarnished. The creep would have moved to another congregation and received "privileges" after several years and abused another youth. WTBTS is a sick and twisted organization that is more concerned about their appearance than doing the right thing. I applaud this church for doing the right thing, no matter the negative publicity that is generated.

A leader from the congregation apparently warned the girl's parents in November 2006 that the instructor — who previously attended church sessions in Ogden and Oregon — was a "bad kid" who had "engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with a female member of the Clearfield congregation."
The girl's interactions with the instructor began in summer 2007, the lawsuit states, when she attended a movie with him.

Sounds like he'd been a longtime loser.

And FYI ... age of consent is 16 in Utah.

Now, why the heck are they playing a tape in a judicial meeting. Some elders have absolutely no common sense.
