I was Transitioning at the time from PIMO to POMO. I remember having a discussion with the accounts servant about money coming in to money going out. He outrightly admitted to me that there was no way the donations were covering the cost for the literature. I stated that he felt embarrassed at the amount of money publishers were giving. This was at least 10 years ago, before the advent of JW.borg.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I think the 'worldwide work' donation is extra money beyond the monthly stipend the congregation sends to Warwick. The previous 'mortgage payment' has been changed to a 'monthly donation-which-never-ends' and is considered a standard monthly expense for the congregation.

Yes that’s right. When the accounts are read out they have money coming in to the congregation and then money coming in for the Watchtower society. Then in terms of expenses they have local expenses that are deducted from the donations to the congregation, plus the money sent from the congregation to the Watchtower society that is also deducted from the donations to the congregation. In my congregation I think the congregation donation to Watchtower was reduced from £600 to £300 over the past couple of years, and direct donations from local publishers to Watchtower are often low, and sometimes even zero.

I think insiders have recently indicated that money bequeathed in wills is a major source of revenue for Watchtower, perhaps more significant than the regular donations, and enough to keep them afloat and comfortable for the foreseeable future.

Before I left, I recall a serious discussion at a BOE mtg. The dollar amount for the month was less than $100 above what I gave! Obviously the BOE and the COBE leading the discussion had given nothing. I realized that the heart of the congregation was trending toward no donations. The Branch put the KH on the market soon after that.

In every country and congregation I have assisted, and there we're plenty. Account servant always hade a smirk on there faces when mentioning how little money was donated. Assembly always came up short. If someone thinks org don't want too go online cause it would mean less donation, your wrong. They get much more money just selling does kingdom halls.

Congregations seem to be obligated to the WTS for $8.50/month for each active publisher. How does that work?

    blondie,

I am not sure- maybe just an expected expense...-I do know the elder body can suggest a higher number motion and it be voted on. Before I knew about the requirement I always wondered why expenses were so high...you will have one hall with 3 congregations. how much can it cost for utilities and upkeep with 3 congregations paying for them?

That 8.50 pays car, insurance, health insurance, etc. for co's; self jnsurance on halls (but if something happens a donation box goes in). There is another resolution to send a regular donation from congregation funds.

For awhile my pimo brother who was a machinist would fill the donation boxes with metal washers. I would put fake money in the box. Then from a far we would watch the account servant collect. What a good laugh.

then there is a vote to pay the CO's expenses when he is there for a week...( the green handshakes didn't count ) I hope some of those COs have squirreled away some of those personal donations. We barely made a living, but Mr x could come up with $100 for him back 25 years ago.
