another little example of a spirit anointed elder of no education.

Self control? the wt definition of sc is to live your life in a suit of armour wearing blinkers.

There is self control and flagellation. The wt pursues the latter.

I have visits from the 'black-dog' and I am thankful I have also access to a wonderful pharma benefits system that supplies me with medications that keep the dog (bitch?) from having pups.

The wts is utterly incapable of making any comments on depression without revealing themselves as prima cause of it in so many.

Never in humanity have so few created such despair in the hearts and minds the very lives of so many. ..apologies to Winston Churchill...

they just need to stop giving in to impulses and show more self control without letting their emotions rule their lives

Imagine being at the mercy of this unenlightened narrow minded clod? This is why "unlettered and ordinary men" have no business being in a position of authority where they can influence and make life altering decisions that can permanently affect the lives of others.

An old elder once asked me how I was, and I decided to be honest (and not just say ok) I said I was very depressed and was having a hard time. He looked at me with his finger pointed at my face and said "Then you must be doing something wrong"

"they are just need to stop giving in to impulses and show more self control without letting their emotions rule their lives."

These are the idiots that are put in charge of "shepherding" the flock. I would never take a problem to these asshats! What a joke!

And how much of the problem is due to ridiculous demands from the washtowel? Give up your job to attend a single boasting session, throw away all your money into the Worldwide Damnation Fund, pious-sneer, save up for Israel missions every year, get a new tablet or phone so you can keep up with the boasting sessions--and not worry about the debt that results? And they have to work crap jobs that pay diddly, because of their rules or to attend all the boasting sessions--who the heaven can do that and still incur the expenses they do and not go into debt?

...commented saying that people who go on about how depressed or anxious they are just need to stop giving in to impulses and show more self control without letting their emotions rule their lives.

Sure, we should all rely on the mental health advice of people who barely finished high school.

In Spain I was hospitalised briefly for depression and an elder at the English congregation told everyone to avoid me cos I had "gone off the rails a bit"! Thankfully I had far more caring and sympathetic non JW Spanish neighbours who looked after me when I got home.

I am inclined to agree with WIZARD above.

Many JWs are probably depressed and worried about their situation because they listened to the religion's bad advice and did NOT prepare adequately or even at all for their future. They need the new system to come ASAP to save them from the predicament they are in.

Back in the day I remember some over-righteous person saying that 'we are supposed to be happy people' and if a person is very unhappy they 'must be doing something wrong or unwise'. In other words, the fault is theirs somehow.🙄 They want you to be smiling like an idiot.
