As many of the previous comments have highlighted, it's amazing how often the WT draws attention to the negative example of the Pharisees in creating burdensome rules that went beyond "what was written" and "straining out the gnat but gulping down the camel" with petty rules but overlooking the "weightier matters" like justice and mercy - yet then proceeds to behave in exactly the same way, setting out all kinds of rules and conditions that are nowhere to be found in the scriptures.

A lot of people are uncomfortable with freedom. They literally can't function without excessive domination and control of other men.

Jesus cleaned out the place bearing God's name in the past. Jehovah allowed the nations to be used as the instrument of discipline in the past on His name people. The WTBT$ will be torn down with permission from Jehovah. "Not a stone left upon a stone."
Then all the precious sheep that have been tossed aside or inappropriately "shunned" will be gathered in. (Ezekiel 34) Jehovah and Jesus will get rid of that horrid disfellowshipping doctrine forever.

Regarding the comment from Balaamsass: I wonder if the person at Bethel, who saw that person taking the Bethel tour, and reported them, thought that they were gaining some "brownie points" with god, or the organization, by doing that? They might have been...might have been.

The trouble with WT disfellowshipment rules is that they treat all "sin" equally. At the end of the day, the only sin which really harms the org is questioning them. The other sins, like a one off one-night stand, might be embarrassing to those involved, but quick repentance and forgiveness might create a more grateful and gung-ho witness in the long run. Much as I dislike Catholicism, they at least differentiate between "mortal" and "venial" sins. JWs could classify everything specifically against the org as particularly heinous and harder to walk back and be a little more lenient about stuff that is common to all humanity.

So true. I got disfellowshipped for telling on abuse in my congregation. They called reporting abuse and warning others "reviling and causing divisions". You're not allowed to have an opinion that isn't in harmony with the opinion of the elders/Bethel/CO. If they don't think the abuse matters, then you are "reviling and causing divisions" if you tell anyone else about it because it makes the elders/Bethel/CO look bad.
