I am so fed up with this whole Europe thing. I as a British person do not feel that it is fair that we are not being given the right to vote as to wether we go into Europe full hog and the Euro so that we can lose our status as a country ! get higher taxes etc to support the poorer countries.

This has got so stupid that my home county Kent want to put a large chalk engraving in the hill side of the Invicta logo (the Kent logo) which looks really nice, the whole county voted for it and it was tried with ribbons and we were all happy. Just before work begins, Brussels come in and say "No" we are not allowed to have this. So now we in OUR country want something that looks nice and is a symbol for visitors but someone in ANOTHER country dictates what we can and cant do !

Well people of England this is just a taste of things to come. We have decided that if we go into Europe as planned then we are leaving !

You can almost map out exactly what is going to happen, Blair will push us into Europe, after a short while Britons will get angry and there will be an uprising, then a nice big friendly Euro army will come in and beat the crap out of everyone - sounds nice dont it !

France and Germany are the driving force behind all this European federalisation business, first economically, now moving into the political sphere.

France and Germany are also the two countries who between them have spent most of the past 400 years trying to achieve European hegemony.

It amazes me how many people don't connect the two. It didn't work militarily and individually, so now they're trying it together economically and politically. Same objective though. Don't ever forget that when French politicians say "Europe" they mean "France".

That's why they hate the Anglos so much, of course. It's always the Anglos that get in the way.First Britain with its centuries old policy of maintaining a balance of power on the European mainland while becoming the most powerful of the imperial empires, then the US with its "informal" economic empire and military supremacy. And both of them together making English culture and thought-modes dominant in the modern world.

Hence we get the gnashing of Franco-German teeth, such as the recent Iraq fiasco, which had nothing to do with Iraq, and everything to do with trying to hobble Anglo power.

Britain doesn't belong in Europe. It has far more in common with the other countries of the Anglophone world. As Margaret Thatcher said, in her lifetime all the problems came from Europe, and all the solutions from the English speaking world.

    LOL

wait a second wait a second!

you two guys are out of touch with history and reality BIG TIME and i really hope not all brits have that opinion about the EU.

    mattnoel,

why exactly did the EU forbid this symbol? that story is hard to believe.

You can almost map out exactly what is going to happen, Blair will push us into Europe, after a short while Britons will get angry and there will be an uprising, then a nice big friendly Euro army will come in and beat the crap out of everyone - sounds nice dont it !

this is so absurd it doesn'T even deserve a comment.

each european country has to give up a few rights and gains a free market with fair rules in return. britain wanted to stay out originally and actually formed its own coalition (EFTA). eventually the british gov. noticed that they lost out on too much buisness so they simply left the efta and joined the EU (by the way with better conditions than all other members! the UK pays much less than it would have to according to the rules).

same thing with the Euro...first you guys think you loose independence or whatever....now after it turns out that not joining was a economical disaster you will join.

    extrabit,

yes france and germany are the driving force behind the EU. and rightly so! instead of fighting idiotic wars against each other people finally realized that it is better to try to work together. britain would be very welcome to join them. unfortunately many people in britain think germany or france or whoever want to control them. this is a completely absurd notion. instead of always trying to stay outside as long as possible eventually being economically forced to join anyway the brits should rather take an active part in the unification of europe!

Matt, I'm just off on my "vacation" but I'm just curious to your opinion: What do you think Britain can do about the massive outflow of jobs that is currently taking place in the IT and finance sectors from here to the far East and India. I am sure you must be aware of the catastrophic effect this is having on our economy which is falling against the Euro. Once our service industry goes the same way as manufacturing, we'll not have much left.
