    Hi Landy!

Is it now mandatory that you have to become a trustee on appointment to an elder?

What if you can't become a trustee*, would that also prevent you from ever becoming an elder?

*Undischarged bankrupt or an IVA/Criminal conviction involving dishonesty/Disqualified as company director

I understand that, if you were an elder still, you would formally withdraw from being a trustee (ie the congregation secretary would not just delete you, but a letter would be written to the Charity Commission.)

And presumably if you were to be made an elder (ie what would have been a new trustee), a letter would to sent to the CC confirming you were not a trustee.

    Hi Damascus!

    www.watchtowerdocuments.org/jws-have-their-own-legal-system/

    Thank you for the link

    Oh dear....

Unfortunately the quote seems to only be in the comments section made by the poster 'zeb' which is the same username as the poster in this thread who posted the same quote - but sadly with no reference to where the actual quote comes from. (and you kinda reminded me about something else too )

You also linked to Barbara Anderson's website - and reminded me that I'm still waiting for confirmation regarding a newspaper quote that she has used (and please I'm really really hoping it's not the quote from the UK Sunday newspaper 'The Sunday People' )

    Eldership, as I recall it

As an elder's wife I can atest to what the opening post said, we never had a marriage. It was amazing how RUDE and down right spiteful some of the JW"s can be.

One time I had a work function that I needed my husband to attend with me, it could have cost me my job. Well this needy sister called the night before and told me that she needed my husband to come over and hold her hand the next day right at the time of my function. I really tried to be calm and nice and explanded that he was going to be busy but could come afterwards. She started to scream at me that she didn't give a care about me and that as an elder my husband had better be there the next day or else.

Now my husband had spent day's and day's and day's with this sister leaving me home alone, but I knew that if he found out she wanted him the next day he would still blow me off and go running to her. I unplugged the phones and didn't tell him she called.

Stuff like that happened all the time.

Also as anelder's wife here in the US I never knew the elder's are called independent agent's, which translated means that they can be sued and the powers to be in Bethel will not help them out. It would have been good to know as the state I live in if my husband's sued, it would totally affect me and I would lose everything.

Something that even a lot of elders don't even know.

The liability of elders actions will fall squarely on themselves as head office washes their hands. Head offices advice is always about their own protection, just like the bullshit when they say every baptised member is a minister, literally dozens of times in court they have tried to distance themselves from even MS actions. Litigation will bury the WT, I know because look at the quality of their representation at ARC. In courts it all boils down to the quality of lawyers, ask OJ Simpson.

Elders and wannabe elders: run for your lives from this soul-sucking, exploitative, nasty little religion you somehow ended up in, through your gullible parents or whatever. Take your family and get outta there.

In my local congregation, one if the paragraphs focussed upon was paragraph 4 - ".... If we were to brood over disappointments, we could become very discouraged..." However, the authors miss the point that the prime source of duscouragement is the content of the meetings being so banal, repetitive, and highly eisegetal.

Rather outrageous was paragraph 11 wherein it was said... "And as we read our Bible-based publications, we can discern God’s thinking on many matters." The authors are truly elevating their literature above scripture. It's publication idolatry.

I noted too that "spiritual progress" at least for males was directly linked to their being appointed. For everyone in general it had to do with doing more...More...MORE. Nor did it have anything to do with showing actual Christlike qualities towards OTHER people. Never enough for the nitwits in charge!
