Yep, the College of Hard Knocks is a b!tch. It toughens us in certain ways and brings out talents we didn't know we had. I'd say you've survived nicely while acquiring some rather amazing wisdom, insights and literary skills without loss of care and concern for the rest of us.

I recall when I was called up for Vietnam (Yes Australians were there in Vietnam) the elders told me to say to the court it was my idea to oppose and not a teaching of the wts.
