Some are suggesting that this 180 on toasting,,,,could be used as a reference point in the future.
So if/when the Borg makes another or more significant flip flop,,,the Borg can reference to the change on beards,,,toasting or grooming,,,,as a reference point.

That they could be using these "changes" as a distraction from a much more serious issue.
Like the child abuse problem or the Borgs secret affiliation with the UN for 9 years.

while I unfortunately haven't kept an example of this, but a line of reasoning I've seen used quite commonly in Watchtower magazines of the past, is that really a really simplistic example is used at the beginning of an article, and latter in the same study article, its used as prima facia for a heavier application.
Following along with this reasoning, the Governing Body could very well tie lifting the beard sanction, the field service reporting adjustment and now the toasting issue together, as a basis of a more larger change.
But to me, this just underscores the weakness of the Governing Body and their real lack of manly leadership. Because instead of standing up to make a difficult decision and owning the fallout, they play this game to minimize their loss of face by literally involving God, by claiming that these changes are part of Jehovah's blessing.

I think what we have been seeing is a walking back of the religion that Judge Rutherford created. Nearly all the Pharisaic rules in the JW faith originated with Rutherford. His reason for establishing these rules was to establish a tightly knit organization which was different than every other. Adherence to these rules and the persecution that came from following them were proof of the group's righteousness. There is no longer any need for this. Expect the JW's to continue their march toward the mainstream.

This update was to set the stage ready for new light on birthday celebrations and then JWs will go well over the top on kids birthday parties making up for lost time and they will be saying well done doing your bit to supporting the new light. Isn’t Jehovah wonderful allowing us to celebrate birthdays again.
