"A generation is not overly long."

Evidently, they are also not “underly short.”

WT “theology” is a joke for its lack of consistency, coherence or logic.

    Let’s review: It’s a cult!

From jwfacts, Changes to the Generation Teaching:

“At the 2010 annual meeting, John Barr presented another new understanding of the generation. 97 year old Barr was an apt choice to deliver this talk, being the last of the Governing Body born before 1914. He explained the generation is now to include 2 groups whose lives "overlap" since 1914:

    • Jesus evidently meant that the lives of the anointed ones who were on hand when the sign began to be evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of the other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation. We do not know the exact length of ‘this generation,’ but it includes these two groups whose lives overlap.”

    *** END QUOTE ***

    Evidently ... It’s overlapping bullshit! 💩 💩

Time to move the starting point. - stillin

Yeah stillin they're going to have to do that eventually once everyone who overlaps with the 1914 generation has died off.

The thing is from what newbies on here say, young adult born-ins and new converts now don't know anything about the generation teaching at all! Yet still they convert or get baptised! Following all those life-crippling rules with no end in sight. Why?!

As others have said, JWs don’t talk about it, presumably because it’s embarrasong. Such a contrast with the 1980s when the old “generation” teaching provoked conversation and excitement, at least among some.

Note interesting use of the word “overlapping” in a QFR from 1952:

    Questions From Readers
    ● Your publications point out that the battle of Armageddon will come in this generation, and that this generation began A.D. 1914. Scripturally, how long is a generation?—G. P., Liberia.
Webster’s unabridged dictionary gives, in part, this definition of generation: “The average lifetime of man, or the ordinary period of time at which one rank follows another, or father is succeeded by child; an age. A generation is usually taken to be about 33 years.” But the Bible is not so specific. It gives no number of years for a generation. And in Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30 and Luke 21:32, the texts mentioning the generation the question refers to, we are not to take generation as meaning the average time for one generation to be succeeded by the next, as Webster’s does in its 33-year approximation; but rather more like Webster’s first-quoted definition, “the average lifetime of man.” Three or even four generations may be living at the same time, their lives overlapping. (Ps. 78:4; 145:4) Before the Noachian flood the life span was hundreds of years. Down through the centuries since, it has varied, and even now is different in different countries. The Bible does speak of a man’s days as being threescore and ten or fourscore years; but it assigns no specific number of years to a generation.—Ps. 90:10.
Even if it did, we could not calculate from such a figure the date of Armageddon, for the texts here under discussion do not say God’s battle comes right at the end of this generation, but before its end. To try to say how many years before its end would be speculative. The texts merely set a limit that is sufficiently definite for all present practical purposes. Some persons living A.D. 1914 when the series of foretold events began will also be living when the series ends with Armageddon. All the events will come within the span of a generation. There are hundreds of millions of persons living now that were living in 1914, and many millions of these persons could yet live a score or more years. Just when the lives of the majority of them will be cut short by Armageddon we cannot say.

That mag title should be retconned: "1914: The Generation That Will Never Overlap" V

right.! why? resurrected once, like these now gone old timers pictured, RIP, will never again procreate, overlap in a fertile way. PS:

What has to be considered is, that in a funny way, two groups, when overlapping become 2 generations, because they generated.

I left before the whole overlapping generation nonsense started, and I am so glad I did. But one thing I do remember there were teaching that we were supposed to get, and some of those made absolutely no sense to me, and no matter how much I would try to figure it out I couldn't, only to discover those things didn't make any sense because it was a total sham.

The gist of this overlapping generation is that they (society) can expand the time of the end.. It is not 'Just Around the Corner" as they want to push....

It also is erasing the date of 1914 - slowly eroding that premise. If you take a look at scripture, no specific ages were given - they were born, had kids, came to power, died- but no months were given to give us an really distinct period a person lived. It was always like - came to the throne when he was 33, not 33 and 6 months... those months add a lot of time to each persons life span - even tho they look to Daniel and his count as specific. The only date recognized by history is the fall of Jerusalem in 70 ce. Babylon took Jerusalem 20 years before the 539 BCE mark-on the first attack - there were three attacks.

Time frame is off.....the overlapping generation ended supposedly in 90"S - everyone of the GB2 born after that is not of the overlapping generation- according to video of the march of time from the society explaining how they came to that final resolution of the overlapping generation time frame. It is on the inet somewhere within the past year. More confusing crap.

Let's realize, people are like sheep, they want someone else to do thinking and reaching conclusions for them.. when you hear enough of this babble, you are numb to see clearly and act.

In short this overlapping doctrine created by the WTS. is theological bullshit designed to uphold 1914 which in itself is theological bullshit.

Is it Biblically supported ? no ! but it gives confirmation to the men who are now the anointed GB members, once these guys die off the newly replaced GB members will have a problem on their hands.

This is how corrupt cults work, they change or create doctrines to suit themselves , substantiate them by quoting select writings of the given Holy books , then enforce them over their lured in members , watching carefully who agrees with these doctrines or not.

Since the WTS is structurally a religious publishing house, it is no wonder they implanted a strict enforcement over the established doctrines such as 1914.

Using the WOL (WT Online Library) I found this quote quite quickly.

18 How, then, may we understand Jesus’ words about “this generation”? The generationconsists of two overlapping groups of anointed ones—the first is made up of anointed ones who saw the beginning of the fulfillment of the sign in 1914 and the second, anointed ones who for a time were contemporaries of the first group. At least some of those in the second group will live to see the beginning of the coming tribulation. The two groups form one generation because their lives as anointed Christians overlapped for a time.*

The r&f never talk about it in conversation. They can't understand it and a lot secretly don't believe it..... just waiting for the next explanation to come along.
