Sheesh!!...Calamity, Winnipeg Beach was where I attended meetings as a kid!!!! Winnipeg Beach was a lovely resort community....bustling place in the summer with music pouring outta the grand dance hall (till it got torn down)...and games ....and the old roller coaster on the beach with the screams of pleasure still echoing in my mind....Ahhhhhh.....to be a kid growing up there!!! I was actually born in Gimli....and raised on a small mixed farm between Gimli and Winnipeg Beach....a small place called Sandy Hook. I remember the Drohmereski's with the corner store (went btroke after deciding they could not conscienciously sell cigarettes...sheesh!), the Demrey's....the Samborski's....Marie & Bill Klymiuk and their kids Glen & Gwendolyn. I had a crush on Glen....He used to chase me around the kingdom hall after the meeting....Geeeez, if I was a little smarter, I woulda let him catch meee!!! Or maybe I was just toooo smart to let myself git caught!!!?

Like a corner of the Bermudas in Manitoba, no less.

Very fitting description, xjw...a truly wonderful beach! Very rare in Canada!!!

Spent a lot of time there. Nice and quiet, during the week, and Coney Island on the weekends, when 100,000 Winnipegers made the short trip, North. Does anyone know if they finally 4 laned that highway all the way ? I remember it only going the majority of the way and then down to 2 lanes.

Yes, the highway was treacherous....wild Winnipegers gettin' away from the big hot city in the scorching summer heat....talk about road rage!!!

And yes, they did give it four lanes....it was desperately needed! I'm not sure what year it was finally completed. All I know is that it happened some time after 1978, which was the year I moved to Saskatoon....believe me....there are no beaches like that in Saskatoon!

Ahhhhh...the good ol' days!!!! Thanks for the memories, everyone!!!

    Love you all!!!

Now, a little joke for our friends to the north.....

    Q. How can you tell if your girlfriend likes Moosehead?

    A. By the antler marks on her thighs.

GROAN! - but it was a good one. Not sure if you are familiar with this, but there is a beer up here from Atlantic Canada called: MOOSEHEAD

Hey Robdar, when xjw_b12 & calamityjane mentioned about the wildlife up there at the top of Lake Superior (Thunder Bay, Ontario), they weren't kidding. Cougars - woohoo!

ESTEE: yeah, Lake Winnipeg is the (7th to 10th) largest lake in the world. I know it's bigger than Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, and CLEANER too! That sand up there, is awesome! I know, I've walked around in it, and I have swam in Lake Winnipeg, and it was nice (mid-August).

Sandy beaches, well, believe it or not folks, there are some lovely beaches. Sandbanks Provincial Park on Quinte Island (south of Belleville, Ontario) on the shores of Lake Ontario, as well as Presquile Prov. Park near Brighton, Ontario. Superb sand, fine and so nice to walk in.

Lake Erie has some lovely dunes on the northside of the lake, across from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Some amazing dunes, real tall. Varies from place to place. But I've been to a few lovely ones there.

Lake Huron has some as well, but a bit rockier, but Lake Huron is so vast and endless and cold enough to give any male a raisinbag for sure. Clean too.

Lake Winnipeg is a hidden charm. Estee, I think the 4-lane highway to Grand Beach is completed. When I went there in 1992, they were building it past this one First Nation community (can't remember the name). So it must be done by now.

Summer is soon upon us again. Can't wait!

Check this out. This is NOT in the tropics, but on the beautiful shores on Lake Winnipeg.

I think that's ESTEE on the floatation device, but we aren't sure

Grand Beach, Manitoba. On the shores of Lake Winnipeg, Canada.

Pictures of Grand Beach, know in Manitoba, as " The Beach "

Its 3 km beach of fine white sand is considered one of the best beaches in the world. On summer weekends, it is not uncommon for more than 20,000 visitors to come and enjoy the modern campgrounds, picnic areas, and of course, the beach itself.

I remember all these people. Like I said my parents would go to Winnipeg Beach every summer and would stay with the Galonskis. (spelling?) I had a crush on the son David. We were at David and Doreen's wedding, oh so many years ago. It would be so stinkin hot sleeping in their house as we would sleep upstairs.

I too had a crush on Glen, Gwendolyn and I were pretty close as my brother would play with them when we visited.

    Love

I remember David and his folks! We had singsongs at their house! 'Cuz Phylis played the mandolin. Marie played the piano and the accordion. David had twin sisters, remember? He had this cool horn in his car that sounded like a whistle, you know the kind of whistle that guys do when they like you? He embarassed me with it many a time...
