Why Were / Are the Best Rock Bands British?

It's funny. Being a Brit, I think the Scottish bands are hugely talented.
Having Sai that, Angels and Airwaves do it for me.

I agree with all the comments so far. Another possible factor might be the American record companies and producers in their efforts to appeal to the widest possible audience interfered with the creativity of their artists. (Think Prince in his slave days)
Big business is more interested in quantity than quality.
