And since jw's love to use the bible to twist verses to fit their motives, use one or both of these on them:

    *** Proverbs 18:13 ***

    13

When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears [it], that is foolishness on his part and a humiliation.

And one of my personal favorites:

    *** 1 John 4:1 ***

4 Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.

These scriptures work very well with someone who refuses to hear both sides of an issue. As soon as they discount a source as being *apostate* they shutdown, becoming foolish and humiliated.

If you're not a lawyer, you should be (you would be good at it).

Spice, I like the way you are using that quote from the Awake from June 2000. As a side point, it once again shows how they ofetn overlook or violate the very principles they claim to espouse

That's cool, Spice. Very good reasoning.

Yanno, you keep fooling with your mom's brain like that and you may fool around and change her life.

    Well done Spice,

I do hope that your mum takes it all on board. Crisis of Conscience is a very good choice, it was the last straw for us, as others have said.

    keep us informed.

I wish that I was that calm. The yelling usually starts at some point. Then there are no good points exchanged.

Please copy if you can use it. Even if it doesnt work on my mom (keeping my fingers crossed as she hasnt decided anything yet) it would be worthwhile if anyone benefitted from it. I think thats the main reason I shared it with you all. I wish you luck.

Thanks. I will keep those in mind if she decides against it. It might be the breaking point.

Hey thanks. I never really thought of myself as a great debater but lately a few people have told me otherwise. I think you have to really control your emotions to pull it off. I just talked to her like she was any other normal person. Then again considering she knows I am apostate (thought never baptised) we do have a pretty great and rare relationship with being able to be as open as this was.

Oh I know. I can't wait to show her what I read from. I wonder what she will do.

    Teejay

    I sure hope so.

Yeah I just hope she agrees to raed it. Funny thing when I mentioned book she asked if it was "I was a witness slave" or something like that. I tols her not at all so she may not realize what CoC really is.

Well through the years I have learned how to approach my parents. Believe me if I had tried doing this even 2-3 years ago I would have failed in that department miserably. Now I think I am so determined (been working on mom with little tidbits for several months now) and ready to test her willingness. I feel like I will be sucessful. The confidence I think showed as well. I'm not that "scared" worldy girl anymore and I am sure of the things I tell her. She then takes note that perhaps what I am saying could be important. thats the first step is just getting them to listen to what you are saying. That is one thing I have accomplished.

Someone asked me where I came up with the "green-glasses" example. That is a Spice original so if anyone wants to use it please feel free. Using the Awake was shamelssly taken from CoC which I am currently reading.

Thanks again for all the support.
