I was recently talking with a zealous 'sister' who for years was assigned to use a certain chemical while taking care of WT property, only to have it irreparably damage her immune system partly because she wasn't trained properly. She said there was a potential lawsuit but she didn't want to bring reproach on Jehovah's organization. Has anybody else heard of similar situations, of people being hurt or injured in service to the org, maybe even because of them, and taking the loss so the org wouldn't look bad?

Yes I heard, only in rough outline, that a brother died during Watchtower construction work in Germany due to negligence. The JW family were under a lot of pressure from the congregation not to seek financial compensation from Watchtower. I think they reached an agreement to give the family a modest amount of money for their hardship in order to avoid a court case, but it was generally considered that they would have had a substantial claim if they pursued it.

I have actually heard the opposite. That Watchtower actually asked for an official lawsuit because that is what is required for their insurance to pay out.

I know a brother who went to NYC to work on renovations to the Towers on the roof. Another jw dropped a large pipe on his foot and he spent the rest of his 2 weeks in the WTS infirmary. They did bring in a jw surgeon that had much experience with such injuries, fortunately. The WTS paid for it all. It too was a case of lack training and letting any dumb jerk to work, especially the kind that don't listen to directions. The injured jw had no problem suing them if the WTS had not covered the costs. It was a learning experience for him a new jw.

There was a young brother that fell down the elevator shaft at Squibb in '73.

Several brothers had fingers cut off in the press room. Phil Wilcox was one of them. I helped take the press apart to look for the finger.

Almost had a bad accident at the farm when I had an all night night watchman duty. On the top of the factory before it was complete I walked to inspect something but stopped (I don't know why I stopped) and noticed that I was one foot away from the edge of the slab. There was no barrier! I would have fallen 3 stories. Another time I had an all nighter at farm 2 and around 1 in the morning a calf got out of the feed lot. I grabbed the calf and put him back in the lot only to look over my shoulder and see the mother coming at me with head down and charging. I rolled under the enclosure (made of steel pipe) and got out just in time. I would have been dead if she had caught me.

Watchtower can fellatiate my phallus. I don't give a goddamn if I get shot in the head by a police officer, or if I should hang myself in my jail cell, or if I'm struck by a bolt of lightning. I'm going to blame someone on the governing body. And that I do not forgive.

I was working nights in the factory when that happened. He was to operate the elevator and take us up to the dining area. So by that time he had died. We did not realize he was only a few below us as we got someone else to operate the elevator.

If I recall correctly I think he had a brother that had drowned some time (years?) earlier.

Mann377, some scary shyth you had on the farm :)

I voluntered with three local brothers to be watchmen at the assembly-hall in my tropical assignment. It was a "hall", but no walls, just a huge roof for around 3000 people. It got pretty cold, in january, and we took turn. One brother brought a bottle of rum with him, that's how we spent the night in the dark, as the lights went off. One young brother took a couple of shots and got drunk, started to shout. We had to calm him down and after a while he started vomiting all over the place :) Sometimes it was great fun.

Are you sure that Watchtower isn't self insured in these matters? I'm not sure, just asking.
