In 1973, I remember a big, burly brother presenting a part on the program (Theocratic Ministry School - not a Public Talk) about the nearness of the end. He held up his hand flourishing his five fingers for all to see and said, "There are fewer years left for this old system than the fingers on this hand". The audience erupted into loud clapping.

Across the subsequent long decades, I often wondered about this brother and what he thought of his theatrical performance.

Yes, but look how close it is NOW. Lol. My parents thought the end was near because of the Beatles first performance on Ed Sullivan, ha!

No way, no no no, why would that mean anything? I can't do it. These people are too much for me.

For an org such as the wt that hangs on its own power and seeks ongoing ever more control over its adherents the fall of the 'system' would mean

    • the collapse of the wt which relies as any organization does on
    • the supply of fossil fuels,
    • law enforcement,
    • electricity,
    • food supplies,
    • and all the skills of the modern ages to exist.
    • The clods in Bethel have been forecasting their own demise in every breath they make on this end of system subject.

    My 50c worth.

In the past they've always had the 'within this generation' to use as a biblical basis for their stance but now they have nothing, other than their frenzied suggestions.

I can remember someone saying that this system couldn't possibly last beyond 1995--and that was near the end of 1994. This was someone in field circus, stating how "bad" things were getting (still not as bad as they will get if xianity and/or islam seize control of the whole earth). What happened to that? 1996 happened.

To me, there is only one reason to drop out of college. If you find yourself getting into too much debt from student loans, that might be reason to drop out (and even then, you alone make that decision). If you are going through college with a minimum of student debt (or none at all), you should not be dropping out--and certainly not so you can live a life of drudgery and stagnation pious-sneering.

It amazes me that people buy into the WTS's selling prognostications like the world is going to end, but that's what a fear mongering apocalyptic publishing house does.

I don't get it either. I get it back in the 50s and 60s because of the Cold War and the Cuban missile crisis, that I get. But how long can you peddle the same old stuff? I mean seriously, how long? I think many Jehovah's Witnesses are too ashamed to admit the organization tricked them, maybe individual Witnesses didn't, there's good people in this faith, but... at the top, the leaders know, some of them know at least, that it's a big con by this point: Armageddon will not come, and they all but admitted that by moving to Warwick. Just... how long will Jehovah's Witnesses let these people mislead them? I know people join for different reasons, I know people join for community and identify and what not. But they sell people on paradise, and then paradise never comes, that's gotta be in the back of their minds, enough of them at least. Enough is enough, there's no shame in folding your hand and saying, I'm out, when the deck is stacked against you and the winners are in cahoots.

Hey, I faded more than 10 years ago, and some told me "This system cannot last another 10 years."

Just keep moving the goalpost. Don't look back at expectations, verbalized or not, or you will turn into a pillar of salt.
