WT knows exactly what it's doing.
Shameless!
Its just like the misquoted Ramah Singh quote all over again....
Come on WT / GB, when will you learn???
Good catch, stavro (Dalek?)
I always look up any quotes from non-jw sources the WTS makes, they are notorious for leaving out crucial information, before, after, or in the middle of a quote.
I once contacted a professional about a quote of theirs the WTS made that was twisted (in an online video on www.wt.org ) It was removed by the WTS the next day and she called me back and thanked me.
Satan not wanting people to think clearly?
So, who is it that insists that people always live on the edge of disaster, always worrying about one piece of bad luck and having to trust in that thing? Who is it that always disrupts their lives every time they are going comfortably? (Usually, with a rule against whatever they are doing for a living.) Who is it that intentionally has boasting sessions that end way past children's bedtimes on school nights, often on the eve of popular test dates every week? Who is it that keeps people busy doing pointless work that takes so much of their time that they don't have adequate sleep? Who is it that punishes people for accessing real knowledge outside the cancer?
Even in the world, Satan is not in full charge. Otherwise, why do we have schools that act like jails and waste so much time teaching rubbish instead of teaching the basics and how to function in the real world? Why do we have to waste so much money giving it to the Rothschilds under heavy jail time? (Which could have been used instead to improve the infrastructure.) Why can't we have cures for diseases today that are right out there in the wild? Why do we have 1.2 ppm of fluoride in our water supply, even when they lie that it is only 0.7 ppm to appease people? Why do so many medications that are taken for life tamper with your ability to think clearly, often leading people right into these cancers or keeping them trapped therein? (So many jokehovians are taking those medications.)
No, Satan is not responsible no matter how much joke-hova blames Satan. A few individuals always mess up everything each time Satan is on the cusp of running a successful show. From Nimrod's almost having a successful government leading to a Golden Age to Rome nearly leading us to a Golden Age before Christi-SCAM-ity barged to today's populist movements that always get sabotaged (leading to everyone getting microchipped, bar-coded, and enslaved), each time Satan is about to succeed, joke-hova always has to ruin it. And this money (Rothschild) and medical, education, and energy (Rockefeller) system is not Satanic--Satan is very much against all of it. Satan feels that energy, information, and health should be free and easy to access, not very expensive and barely more effective than doing nothing.
Perhaps it's high time for the washtowel to stop claiming Satan doesn't want us thinking clearly. It is joke-hova that doesn't want anyone thinking clearly, and will do whatever it takes to prevent it (including political correctness crap, laws, and even inquisitions and microchips).
*** w15 3/15 pp. 23-24 par. 15 Learn From the Illustration of the Talents ***
"In the illustration of the faithful and discreet slave, Jesus spoke of an evil slave who beat his fellow slaves. Jesus was (...) there foretelling that an evil slave class would arise."
"Similarly, in the illustration of the ten virgins, Jesus was (...) indicating that half of his anointed followers would be like the five foolish virgins. (...) he was warning his [other] spiritual brothers about what would happen if they lost their sense of vigilance and did not prove to be prepared. In this context, it seems reasonable to conclude that in the illustration of the talents, Jesus was (...) saying that a large number of his anointed brothers during the last days would be wicked and sluggish."
Yep, works for me.This scientist must be a big wheel. It amuses me that the media sorry...writing department thinks it is necessary to support an actually banal thought namely that someones critical thinking could be hindered in our century by media manipulation, half troughts and fake news by partial citing of a worldly book and not the watchtowers' grey bible itself.
This excessive addiction to cite someone for anything of the Watchtower leads to bad results. There would be more important subjects where citation would be necessary.
Implementing the idea in the heads that scientific books would be more trustworthy than common sense but at the same time missing the important whole of the cited thought is a bad domestic work of the writing department, nothing of the promoted investigations, checks before printing an article.

I was thinking this myself. There was absolutely no need to back up such a straightforward and obvious statement by using an outside source. It makes me wonder if someone on the inside was looking for an excuse to use an incomplete quote, knowing full well that the complete quote would be discovered and exposed.
The
full quote and particularly the sentence which followed it (“Michael Balfour has
suggested that the "best touchstone for distinguishing propaganda from
science is whether a plurality of sources of information and of interpretations
is being discouraged or fostered.") expose just too perfectly
how the watchtower themselves are guilty of dispensing and propagating propaganda.
Is someone on the inside trying to get a message out? Or are they really that naive?
No - by quoting an outside source it gives the pretence of suggesting that the article is an open and transparent document, supported by secular sources. It provides a faux aura of being serious journalism.
They rely on the lack of research done by the vast majority to allow the potentially embarrassing editing of the original quote and it's context to slip by unnoticed.
Incomplete or not, the bit they have quoted is quite enough to see them hoisted by their own petard :
Because propaganda “is likely to be most effective,” says one source, “if people . . . are discouraged from thinking critically.”
So Witnesses are now encouraged to evaluate information and arguments by "critical thinking"... or are they? This very same article goes on to stress.
Your defense? Be determined to stick to Jehovah’s organization and loyally support the leadership he provides—no matter what imperfections may surface
and
Shut your ears, then, to Satan’s propaganda. (Prov. 26:24, 25) Listen to Jehovah and trust in him in all that you do
Of course, by "listen to Jehovah" they mean "listen to the WTS" loyally trust them and shut your ears to anything other.
Is that thinking critically? or is it the call of the propagandist?

It is just that the full quote and the sentence which followed it are so damning, they must have thought about the potential consequences of using it. They surely could have found a similar thought, expressed by someone else in satan's world, which wouldn't have been as damning towards them.
From their past experiences of having been caught out badly, they know people are checking up on them.
