Just curious, maybe someone had seen this? I was wondering what you think would happen if, say you were up on stage for a part (non MS/elder) and simply stated "(your own name) is no longer one of Jehovah's witnesses" and sit back down?
Think it would be more interesting with a mic drop?
I like to see someone do that at the CONvention. Or maybe one of the ASSemblies.
Probably nothing would happen. There would be some low toned audible gasp followed by an awkward silence. The meeting would quickly continue. Should you have the balls to sit quietly in your seat till the conclusion of the meeting you'd very likely be staring at 2-3 elders soon as that closing prayer finished.
At an assembly it would cause a more notable audible disruption. Might even hear a few isolated but loud boo's from the less spiritual but enthusiastic and slightly mental types. If the conductor is particularly charismatic he might make a clever remark about how eager that person is to get into Satan's world. The friends would laugh then start clapping.
Would it be interesting. Yes !!
Though personally I'm not a fan of Hall crashing or any sort of disruptive display of disagreement. In my opinion its disrespectful.
That's kind of a cool idea that I really like. I don't think you should stay if you do that. You should leave a disassociation letter on the podium, and then ride off into the sunset, walking straight out into your new free life.
You know what's disrespectful? Shunning people. I'm not a fan of just interrupting for the sake of doing so, but in this case you'd be doing it at your own KH on the stage you likely stood on many times, and it just feels fitting. I don't think a convention or assembly is the place, that's all about showing off, but doing so in your own congregation is poignant.

Something like that has happened. The guy was an elder and he did a whole speech that sounded right but a little off. He was basically explaining his reasons. Then he says he's done and walks off the stage and out of the building. It caused quite a stir and some people ended up leaving with him. There was a discussion about it on JWR with a link to a message board like this one... I was able to read comments from the man himself and others who had been there when it happened. It was very inspiring and emotional.

Interesting, yes. Effective, depends on what you're doing that for. Will it catch attention, make people go on talking about it? Absolutely. Will they follow you? Not sure, I think that a little seed might get planted.
One thing for sure is that the leadership in the congregation will "handle" it. Also, I'm not sure that some people are going to just let you finish.
That would be a disruption of the meeting. The person should be taken immediately to the little room in the back for a meeting with 3 elders or the person might be kicked out of the hall for disrupting the meeting pending JC proceedings. However, disorderly persons are not allowed to stay in the KH.
I wonder if it would even count. Probably not until the elders finalized the paperwork. When you are disfellowshipped, the process has to be completed by the elders, and the announcement given, before shunning is strictly imposed. Maybe you could technically still talk to those around you, except the elders would drag you away to shield everyone from you.
