So I went to the doctor today and I was running a low fever. She tested for the flu with that awful nasal swab and it was negative and my breathing was normal, no asthma symptoms.
So, the diagnosis is a viral infection. I'm taking Mucinex Fast-Max which is over the counter and has a fever reducer, cough supressant, and decongestant all in one.
She did call in a script for an antibiotic to the pharmacy, but dated it for Friday, so if I don't feel better by then, I have something for the weekend. Yes, Listener, I was going to ask, but she offered. I really like her.
I did not buy Vicks for my feet, though I have heard of that. It just seems weird, but, hey, if it works for you, millie...
Just fine, where do you get Bragg's apple cidar vinegar? Is it more potent than the regular stuff? I keep hearing about it.
Shirley, I have Costco honey. It does seem to soothe my throat a little bit, but no miracles. Honey has gotten very expensive lately. I'll look for farmer's market honey, but don't know if I'll be able to afford it.
Doofdaddy, I have been thinking about getting a neti pot, but I fear that I might feel like I'm drowning. Not sure about my skills.
Thanks everyone for the good advice. I'm going to take a nap now and let my body do its thing and kick this virus. Goodnight!
Just fine, I'm going to look for some Braggs next time I'm at the grocery store. I actually love vinegar, anyhow; on french fries, in potato salad, in red beet soup, on greens, etc.
Definitely in the vinegar camp in the vinegar vs. ketchup debate for french fries.
Mmm, I can just taste those boardwalk fries right now...
local honey is a little like mini allergy injections, plus the thickness will coat a throat to sooth a cough. I love the warm, lemon, honey and bit of whisky old time remedy.
Hot showers, blow your nose while in there ( ick I know but it helps)
warm compress on the ear can sooth an earache.
I do the advil/tylenol alternations if there is a lot of pain. Sleep is more important than not taking meds.
Musinex is great, so is drinking a lot of liquids and using a humidifier ( same basic thing)
Vicks on the feet FEELS very nice, not sure how much it "works" but hey, it feels great.
Take naps as much as you can. Sleep is a wonderful healer.
emergen C or any cold thing with vit C, etc, helps many people.
I've never been brave enough to do the netti pot, but I read it is for prophylactic use, not during an infection. In an active infection it can cause infection to be forced into sinus cavities deeper than it already is and that isn't good. ( Also never go up in a plane when feeling congested like this, same reason. It forces infection deep into the sinus and is dangerous)
Do I sound old or what?
Yes, Safe, it seems I'm going to survive...miss a few days of work, hack into a few pillowcases, ignore the housework, but, yes, I will survive to make another mortgage payment!
My husband just juiced some fresh fruits and vegetables, so I'm drinking this disgusting looking green slop, but it actually tastes very good and I'm sure it's full of good vitamins as well as hydrating me.
Nonjwspouse, okay, I understand the local honey thing now. It's because the bees are making the honey from the local flora and that is what you're allergic to?
Mini allergy shots, that is funny!
