Watchtower has always gotten in trouble "going beyond what is written".
Unlike most churches, they inserted themselves into day-to-day Family planning, sex, finances, education, child-rearing, health care, and crime enforcement (domestic violence, child abuse, fraud). Surprisingly, they didn't insist congregations didn't form firefighting brigades.

Something like this actually happened. Back when I was still in, a "sister" in the congregation was an R.N. at the local hospital.
