JWs and the Holocaust

The JWs always like to highlight their persecution during the Holocaust. While true, the chart below showing numbers of victims for JW was the lowest of all persecuted groups. Even lower than Spanish Republicans.

Im guessing there have been more victims due to the WT blood policy.

Sad to say I think you would be right on that score .

While I was still in many years ago I read a book called "Commandant Of Auschwitz" by Rudolph H. not to be confused with the other infamous Rudolph H.

I even quoted it in a talk I gave to a congregation , in it he gave a commendation to women JW`s who were assigned to look after SS children as nanny`s and as I remember he was amazed and puzzled that these sisters never tried to convert the children in their care to their faith.

Very true on what you say. I remember back in the 90's I visited the new Holocaust museum in St. Pete FL. They had a very nice section on JW's. But the numbers they was giving on how many JW's were in the camps was way off. They said millions of JW's was part of the Holocaust. I ask to talk to the curator of the museum. I let him know that number was wrong and told him it was more like 5,000 - 10,000 was part of the Holocaust and there wasn't even a million JW's in the world at that time. I can't remember the correct number but I wonder if this number has been inflated elsewhere.

I think the women who took care of the SS children most likely did not try to convert them because of fear for their lives. We can only guess what was taking place with them but I do know if we have never gone through this situation we will never understand why they did what they did. Just like those who have loss a child due to no blood policy we will never fully understand their loss. Still Totally ADD

I think JW's have never implied that their numbers were higher than the other groups. Unless if you can show otherwise.

They have highlighted the fact that their members preferred persecution even though they could have gotten away with just signing a declaration form. I am not sure if any other group got this chance.

I think you may be right. When you factor in all the men, women, and children – including little babies – who have been killed on the altar of the Watch Tower, that is a very significant number of needless deaths.

It’s quite scary how man-made religious fervour can successfully manipulate even the most supposedly “intelligent” among society.

Intrresting that Rudolph Höss states jw women did not try to convert their charges. When you read a lot of holocaust survivor autobiographies, its hard not to feel a twinge of resentment toward some of these german dub women who were less than pleasant toward their not-so-fortunate camp-mates. One gets the impression they readily turned over a jew they saw "stealing"food(scraps).

Given their adoration of authority figures I can readily believe it.

What JW organization has said is this: JWs were disproportionately among those who were put into concentration camps, given their relatively low numbers in Germany and surrounding nations at that time. I have never read any JW publication that has ever claimed anything other than that.

I was raised in the organization and while growing up, all the attention of the WWII was focused on the persecution the JW suffered at the hands of the Nazis for their faith. It seemed to me that everyone else who died at the hand of the nazis was meaningless as the JWs were the only one who died for their faith. It also brought me to believe that the number of JW victims was much higher than what it truly was.

Then, about five years ago, I visited the camp of Auschwitz and looked further into what happened. What struck me was the millions of people who fought against the Nazis and helped the resistance. A great majority of them were believing Catholics. Unlike the JWs, they'd say hi Hitler and than go blow up some railway.

When I realized this, I was horrified by the fact that JWs are basically ignoring the stories of all those heroes from other faith. Instead, they blame the other faiths by pointing to those who did bad things while ignoring that about a third of the JWs in Germany actually became inactive.
