I concur with Saint Satan's point of view. My personal take is I want to have a part in whatever way I can in creating a world that people want to live in and a comunity that people want to belong to.

My response will get you down...

I see nothing but agony for mankind. I see an overcrowded world, where 3rd world nations starve by multiples of millions.

I see global warming; the glaciers that I climb have more than all the telltale signs; massive retreat.

I see nothing good. However, no matter what happens, there must be purpose. God is purpose, but he did not make a crazy religion like this to follow. Always close to the end. How boring.

    azalo- revolution with what outcome

well since you asked... I believe that sometime in my lifetime the middle class will have virtually dissapeared, wealth and power will be concentrated in the hands of a very few elite (its already this way in many ways but most people just dont realize it yet because there is still a significant middle class) which will lead to socail unrest and eventually revolution. ok that is a very simplistic, stupid explanation but its the best i can do right now, i just cant think at 2:47am, I'm surer there is someone witha similar viewpoint who can articulate it much better, there are tons of other factors that will come into play, the environment, overpopulation, etc.

    Azalo,

    Revolution

I can see by your avatar that you agree with Che Guevara. I used to have leftist tendencies when I was young. I used to hear the saying "If you are not a Communist before thirty, you have no heart. If you are one after thirty you have no brains" I thought it false, that I would never change. I did in a way, but the feelings of it still run in my veins.

The problem with Communism is that it starts as Socialism. A few get into the power or the money provided by the state controlled resources, and become closet capitalists.

I read the book "The Irony of Democracy" as part of a college course, and came to the realization that the masses are more ruthless and thoughtless than the rulers.

My paradigm of Communism would be a copy of the "Three Musketeers" One for all, and all for one.

I guess most JWs at heart begin by being idealistic, but then the Borg sells us to the idea that we are a special class to whom the world will belong, and become arrogant.

Leftist countries like the ones in the former USSR are beginning to erode because, like the borg, have concentrated in the group, but have no tolerance for individual goals.

Revolution is not about tanks, guns, and blood. It is about a changing of the minds. It should be cultivated like a precious flower.

I recently took a trip to Seol and Beijing. I could see an abundance of cars, mostly luxury, in Seol. Although Beijing has made some improvements, most of the people still move around by bicycles. The hotel where I was staying sharply contrasted with the way a lot of the people still live. On the way to the Great wall I saw the destruction caused to the environment by Mao. He wanted to build terraces in order to grow food, and destroyed instead a lot of soil. Now it is barren.

One thing I learned from a Leadership course in which our instructor was Korean, was the strong family bond Koreans, and I think this extends to most Eastern Asian countries have. He told us that if a grandmother tells her offspring that a law is wrong, they will disobey it.

The TV in Beijing had only about 12 channels was mostly educational. I didn't feel the need for supervision for my two daughters.

But I guess I am rambling and getting off topic.

I think people are evolving for good. Opressive governments are on the way down.

I am an agnostic. I will only believe in god when he shows me that he exists, and what he wants from me personally. I do not believe people claiming to be his/her/its only channel of communication.

I consider myself a Pagan Universalist - and right or wrong I have great faith in humanity. I believe the human race is in its adolescence and as such we are struggling with the same issues teenagers struggle with. We have the intelligence to know right from wrong, but we see ourselves as invincible and want to party for a little while longer before we settle down and act responsibly. If we're lucky we will survive this period in our development and grow to adulthood. Our creator has done the best job possible with us, providing us with all the tools we need to survive and thrive, but even the most well cared for and well-raised children go through confusing times and are in danger of making mistakes that will screw up their lives. Their parents can't and or shouldn't protect them from the consequences of all of their mistakes.

I have faith that we will get through our adolscence and become what we were created to become - of course not in my life time, but I do see things getting better over time, slowly and not without set backs but ultimately I think the human race will fulfill its potential.

I'm with Shamus - very pessimistic about humanity's future on this planet. It seems to me that mankind, taken collectively, has a suicidal urge.

Right now I try to live a day at a time, because when I think about what the next 20-30 years could bring...*shudder* I think the nukes are gonna come out in a big way, Hiroshima and Nagasaki will look like birthday parties in comparison.

If we don't get wiped out in some pointless war, we'll die of some plague, such as Sars. We'll try to find happiness for ourselves, maybe marry the love of our life, who may die before us, leaving us alone and miserable again. We may work in our dream job, having a vocation, from which we eventually have to retire, or be made redundant. We may amass money, but at the end of our life relatives we don't like too much will fight over it. It strikes me that in many ways it's better living with the notion that the end is near, as life pretty much sucks without it.

Exactly, the only problem is the people who hold the real power, and they are probably not so Idealistic. In any organization, religious or political, follow the money.

    azalo- revolution with what outcome?

Good question Ravyn. People who start revolutions feel they will come out on the top of the heap after the killing stops, and then they can enjoy the good life. In the US, Canada, UK, and Oz a revolution would help a very few at the expense of the many.

I believe that sometime in my lifetime the middle class will have virtually dissapeared, wealth and power will be concentrated in the hands of a very few elite

So, apparently we don't have that wealth and power concentration at the present time. Starting a revolution now would just hurt the masses. The old Soviet Union couldn't produce enough food to feed itself. Most western countrys have an abundance of food. Countries that are running short of food need to look at their political systems.

My hidden agenda is to illiminate Marshmallows from the face of the earth.
Yeru, I'm going to start looking for a recepie for marshmallows, in case you should suceed in your quest. I enjoy them, altho they are probably not the most healthy things on the planet. Bottom line, idealism is fine but it doesn't accomplish a whole lot, unless it is mixed with reality. Want a revolution? Revolt against the oil rich oil states where the money is concentrated in the hands of a very few. Bug
