Who watched the American Idol sing-off tonight on Fox?

Based on the polls on some websites, I would say Clay is a lock, but I like Ruben as a pop artist much better. Mulan, for the first time you and I disagree, I LOVED Ruben's version of Imagine. It's one of my favorite songs, and I usually hate people to sing it, but I thought he brought a fresh perspective and vocal take on it. That's it, we're not friends no more (poking out bottom lip ).

I also caught the Dateline edition last night where Paula Abdul admitted she had been bulimic, and also had three discs in her back that had to be operated on. She experienced partial paralysis, and a great deal of pain. Her most recent operation was only two months before the debut of the first season of American Idol. Interesting stuff.

Reborn2002, even though I am a fan of the show, I agree that the overkill is out of hand. I didn't bother watching Monday's episode, and I will certainly not be glued tonight for the entire two hours. I guess for once the WTS is right, when they encourage "moderation" (laughs hysterically at the thought of the WTS being right)

Kimberly said on one of the talk shows that she thinks Ruben will win because Simon doesn't know how to market Clay. I couldn't believe he told him he was ugly when they first saw him.

Nope, Ruben was too "gurgly" when he sang last night. I wonder if he has had formal training. He might be straining his vocal chords.

He is really good.............I love his voice and his personality, but I just like Clay better. Sorry.

THE CHOIR MESSED UP EVERYTHING! I wouldn't want to vote for Ruben and then help him be a Gospel superstar. So i went for Clay. Who else thought also about those 3rd last so songs?

I thought it was interesting that all of the ousted finalists seemed to say Ruben would win, didn't you? At least, that's what I recall. There's an article on CNN that says Simon was really concerned last week at rehearsals because Kimberly was outsinging Ruben, and Simon wanted Ruben to be in the top 2. Sure enough, he was. Cynic that I am, I always wonder if there is some kind of control being exerted so that the person the judges prefer most get the farthest, but then you have some weird upset like last year when Tamyra was booted that kind of disprove that thought.

They are both destined for at least some measure of success, so good luck to them both!

You're probably right...about Clay winning...but to me if out of 24 million votes 10,000 votes separates them, Reuben hardly would be a loser...he's a winner to me!!!

okay....got to see (or more accurately, got subjected to) some of last nights big freakin hoo hah finale.....and it just epitopized exactly what reborn and i were talking about......OVERKILL CITY! give me a break.....counting down votes by state? what is this, the presidential election now?

and do they have to actually REPEAT what simon, paula, and randy said about each person after they sang? wasnt hearing the critique the first time enough? nope, ryan has to repeat it..."after rueben sang ____, randy said:..blah blah, paula said:...blah blah, and simon said....blah blah..........hype, double hype, triple hype, OVER hype.

then of course theres the requisite "we are the world" song and dance with all the finalists....how much more can the public handle? obviously it hasnt been enough yet, as the ratings are soaring.........i cant wait for next season......maybe theyll devote five nights a week to american idol.....four nights of build up, and then vote counting on fridays.....or maybe voting on fridays and the vote count on saturdays, so they can squeeze in six episodes.....yeah thats it.

    LOL @ dubla.

Don't forget, in about 2 weeks the American Idol Juniors (kids under age 16) competitions begin on Fox, and that will last several weeks or months.

Over the summer we are also going to be subjected to:

    • This season's contestants (including Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard) releasing albums.
    • Last year's finalists (Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson) with a film release next month.
    • Last year's contestants (Justin Guarini and Tamyra Gray) with upcoming albums.
    • Last year's contestants (Kelly Clarkson) with current albums and singles on the radio.
    • The Top 12 contestants from this season with a single on the radio.
    • The Top 12 contestants this season going on a national tour over the entire summer.
    • The Canadian edition of American Idol is debuting.
    • Television commercials, talk shows, and radio coverage of contestant updates morning, noon, and night.

Just in time for the fall when the NEW season of American Idol will begin.
