As mentioned in my profile, I think I have the shortest jw history ever. :)
I started to study off and on in 1992, baptised in 1995........df'd/ reinstated........Then I bought my first computer in 1998, stumbled into the jw chat on aol and they we nasty to me when I asked for help. While in the chat room, I was im'd by a man with the screen name chatman and he gave me an invite to LifeValues chat room........Disfellowshiped JWS love Jehovah too. I went in, was asked if I would like to read a bit on information on the jw history and that was all she wrote. I was out!
Not long after that, I was given a link to H2O and because of that forum and this one, have rid myself of all doubts I may have had that the religion was ever the truth.
How long did it take you to leave the org?

GaryB, you and I are not too far apart; my first serious doubts started in 1976...took me another 20 years to really start to fade (although DFd once in the meantime) I'm a slow learner.
hoodwinked, perhaps I should have chosen your handle when I first started posting here!

About 10 years of nonsense. I used to put up with stuff and think, "Jehovah knows what i'm going through..." Things will get better... for TEN YEARS. What a moron.
Been inactive for 5 glorious years now, and won't be active anytime soon. I missed the last 2 years memorials.

I was an MS from 1997-1998 but they "demoted" me when I changed congregations. I started to waiver in "the truth" 3 or so years ago. I soon dropped out of the school and my service time went to an average of 4 or 5 hours per month. I rarely commented at meetings and they took me off the WT reader list. It finally came to a head in September of 2002 when I just stopped going to meetings.
Two key things broke my implicit trust in the Society: the pedophile scandal as well as finding misquotations in the 1985 Creation book. After that it was easier for me to honestly question things and my "wall of faith" crumbled like the chips at the bottom of the bag.

It took me about 7 years to make a complete break.

Too long, what an idiot I was! But now I'm uninvolved for good. I could never advocate that anyone become a JW nor sit through another meeting. Time is short; I've wasted enough.

It took about 9 months for me to go from "doubt" to "out".

Ravyn, yes, we did cross paths. I was Luv2Shari on aol. I still use it at times but have a different screen name now. I use my real name, ShariAguillon.
Do you still go by LadyLovesnyt? If so, I will ad you to my buddy list again.

it took me one year, once i finally admitted to myself that it wasn't me, and there was something wrong. but not knowing where to start or turn, and worried that i might get found out, i was a little slow on the draw.
i was in for 40 years. it took a year of intensive thought and reading, studying the "facts" then i left. 3 months later, i dissassociated.
and i don't look back. i'm moving onward and upward.

i went from 300+ "friends" to one in the stroke of a pen.
