Wasn't Sanford & Son the Americanised version of BBC's Steptoe & Son?

    Englishman.

Unless the United Kingdom had a comedian the likes of Redd Foxx, my initial reaction would be no, Sanford and Son was an original program with no British predecessor serving as a template.

Yes, and in fact, many American TV shows were derivative of British programs. Still are, as far as I know.

I still love BBC shows like "Drop the Dead Donkey", "Are You Being Served", "Faulty Towers",and of course my all-time guilty pleasure - "Absolutely Fabulous".

PS: sorry Reborn. You're wrong on this one. The end credits of Sanford and Son even gave credit to the BBC original.

Sanford and Son. Oh hell yeah! That show was hilarious.

Whoever mentioned "dumbing down" hit the nail on the head. I don't watch reality shows or talk shows because all too often they gravitate to the lowest common denominator. I started watching South Park when it first came out and laughed my ass off, but one night I turned it off. It was a show where they portrayed Christopher Reeve as some evil villain. I hope Parker and Stone get their asses kicked in some dark alley one night over that one.

Give me Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner or Rocky and Bulwinkle over South Park any day.

    Mike.

(Silhouette of female sliding ever-so-slightly down silhouette of male....)

lol. On the DVD commentary they talk specifically about this scene. They originally had the woman going down much farther. The network censors didn't like that.

Yeah, that episode went just a bit too far! Normally the show is hilarious; I only started watching it a few months ago.
