Yes they went to court with Jimmy Swaggard as "friends of the court" really ticked me off after telling me he was a friend of the Devil ( Jimmy Swaggard)
Do you remember why the "donation" arrangement came about?

WHY did the Watchtower Society change its literature distribution program in 1990, eliminating set prices for literature items? JWs believe the Governing Body instituted a "simplified" arrangement. Few know the change really took place because Jimmy Swaggart lost his case in court. In a February 21, 1990 letter to congregations, the Society explained the new policy this way:

So it could have come down to individual jws reporting their literature placements on their income tax staements, from what I read at the link Blondie provided. Wouldn't that have been something?

No religion or religious activity should be tax exempt, I think this is just on of the vestiges from the time when church and state were one and the same. Really there is no logic to it in this day and age. Funny why Sean Hannity, Bill Oreilly and the like never go off on one of their tirades about that.

Our congregation, too, was told this was to make the distribution of literature easier on the brothers......and I believed it. (Why not? I believed everything else the WTS said)
It wasn't until I was feeling rather negative about Mother in mid-1999 and went to H2O and was told about the Jimmy Swaggart fiasco (which I did NOT believe). It just flew in the face of everything I was taught about the WTS, and teaming up with old bawlin' Jimmy just seemed SO out of the question. Until I saw the court document online.......
This "event" actually was the first real eye-opener that shocked me, and led to my eventual leaving and DAing myself because I was so disgusted with the WTS.
