    been on a diet?

I see women as skinny as toothpicks striving to lose weight. Every lady I know seems to be obsessed with loosing an ounce. And then theres detox....

Do they happily diet and enjoy it or are they forever unhappy and striving? And isnt it easier to just drink water and go toilet rather than go on 5 weeks of detox to sweat out as much as you can pee out in one session?

The ladies are an interesting species

I blame the media. Do you know, our quite-nicely-built 9-year-old daughter has already had a couple of girls in her class tell her she's FAT!!!! Which she isn't. She doesn't even have baby fat, but she's not a toothpick either. Man, they learn early. . . . But then look at some of the cadavers (granted, they're beautiful, well-dressed cadavers) that show up at the Oscars, and on the cover of Vogue, etc. As for diets, I've never done a formal thing, just watched what I ate if I thought I was getting, as my father would so sweetly put it, "Aunt Nell's hips." I do better with exercise than dieting -- I get crabby if I'm deprived of the good stuff like chocolate, wine, and pasta.

I had a roommate who had never been on a diet. Ate all she wanted and never gained an ounce. We "hated" her.

Probably, but how many women do you know who do anything the easy way?

Seriously, I think most women view themselves as a work in progress. There is always a spot that needs to be tightened or toned just a bit more. We can't help it. We're obsessed with perfection.

It is far more healthy to be slightly under weight than to be even just a little over weight. http://www.caloriecontrol.org/ibwm.html Is your weight healthy? Use the calculator below to find out.

Healthy Weight Calculator for WomenHealthy Weight Calculator for Men

    Healthy Weight Calculator for Men

    Height in feet: inches:

(Note: You must enter a number in the inches box. If you are exactly 5 ft. or 6 ft., enter "0.")

    Healthy weight in pounds:

If your actual body weight falls within 10% (above or below) the weight calculated, you are within a healthy weight range!

Again, this is only an estimate and is meant to give people an idea of what they should aim for. If you do not match this weight exactly, don't be alarmed. Please note that this guideline does not account for increased muscle mass, illness, etc.

Try comparing this number with your BMI (if you don't know your BMI, check out the BMI Calculator) to see where you fall. If you are above your recommended healthy weight and BMI, you may want to consider changing your lifestyle to incorporate healthier eating habits and increased physical activity. Remember, always consult your physician first.

    Colonic....those are the answer.

I would guess that a spa, just offering Colonics would do well. Hmmm....

I have only really been on a serious diet this year. I have tried all of em and they all suck.

But sometimes you need to diet for your health not your looks so much. My cholestrol and triglycrides are high, which the doctor is monitoring to see if it is the extra weigth or hereditary, which it most likely is both,,,,,but most of my fam on my dad's side have the same problem despite the right food, and weight lost. So we will see.

I agree with Nina, girls are told they are over weight all the time, I remember on American Idol, that Simon creep told one girl she needed to lose weight and she looked fine. There is alot of pressure on girls to be pencil thin , but you know I have seen alot of magazines that embrace the fuller figure, the normal healthy girl, and maybe the tide will be changing . Look at J Lo, so many want now to show off their ample butts, and alot of girls and women are seeing that most men prefer a woman with curves , even if she has a few extra pounds over a stick figure of a girl that resembles a 12 yr old boy. You can be skinny and still look good, if you are healthy, but there are so many that starve themselves to get that way, and they are so depressed always hungry and cranky. Feeling good about yourself is important, if you diet down to a rail just to please someone eles then you are going to be unhappy and unhealthy.

I have lost about 12 lbs on my diet , low calorie,,,,,,,, and I splure on Sundays, and I feel better for me. I still have some to go, but it is feels great to see some progress and next I am going to start an exercise program since I got some of my weight off.

For all the ladies or men on a diet,,,,,,,,more power to you and do it all for making yourself feel better.

Cruzenheart - Kids can be so mean. I am sorry to hear. I've needed to watch what I say about my body around my 9 year old sister. She has a diary and my mom caught her writing in it how much weight she needed to lose!!!! I felt horrid and had to stop being critical of my body in front of her!

Right now I'm just trying to exercise regularly. I've been on many diets. Depriving yourself just doesn't work. Anyone who's interested should read the book, Why Diets Still Don't Work. Excellent book.

I was on a diet at least 4 serious times during the last 30 years, I allways managed to reduce my weight, but every time when I stopped and started to live normal again, I gained all those weight and more each time.

Last year I started with a fithness program (for health) and till my surprise I lost several kg. I started to make long walks with my dogs each day and I changed the kind of food I eat not for a diet but because it very tasty (now lots of fruit and raw vegetables: salads) I lost 24000 grams (24 kg)in total.
You suggested "Do they happily diet and enjoy it or are they forever unhappy and striving? And isnt it easier to just drink water" I hate drinking water - I prefer wine or milk or fruitjuices, but never water - thats for fish.

I read something over a weight calculator for bmi (body mass index), telling you what your weight should be.

I do have an easier way: just stepping on a scale with a computer chip. giving me directly my weight (and between with numbers it should be) how much fat I am carrying with me, and what my lean mass (flesh and bones) is.
Sadly I still have to loose 12000 grams - but I'm confident that I will lost that as well.
And that, after I decided I never would go on a diet again - and I 'm still
eating everything I want (but different taste now)

    regards,

    CW
