Kazaa and spyware!

About a month ago I downloaded Kazaa. I used it to snag a couple of songs, and haven't used it at all since. (I'm on 56K, so it's hardly worth the effort).

But ever since I installed it, I've been getting annoying pop-up ads. Not only that, the ads that pop up often correspond with the content of the web page I'm looking at. For instance, when I was reading Aztec's "Quitting Smoking" thread, I got a pop up for some stop smoking program. When I was reading Brummie's thread about women and dieting, I got a pop-up for a weight-loss program.

This is really annoying, I feel like I'm being spied on!!!! I want to take Kazaa off my computer but I have a feeling that it will leave plenty of little goodies behind.

And before you flame me for using Kazaa, I would gladly use Yahoo!'s pressplay service if it was supported by Windows 95.

Does anybody have any suggestions for getting Kazaa COMPLETELY off my computer, spyware and all?

    g'day mate

    try this: go here http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=spyware&tg=dl-2001

find one u like and install it

remove kazaa through windows "add/remove programs" in control panel then run the spyware finder

there is also a kazaa lite with no spy or bannerware and is a lot faster than the old one..

    hope this helps

    Yeah, what Rainmaker said!

Plus, search for popupstopper.net. There is a free basic popup stopper and I like it alot. It is a very small program, downloaded in less than five minutes, and I have dial-up!

    Kazaa SUCKS!

My son downloaded it awhile back and my PC was never so infected!

I eventually had to do a complete restore and lost a lot of files.

Get Spybot search and destroy,i found it a great little program...it hunts down all spyware on your pc and gets rid of it as well as preventing pop ups.

it's really easy to use and it's free!

You may want to use Kazaa Lite instead (www.k-lite.tk) which is basically Kazaa with all the spyware removed.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

I removed Kazaa via my control panel. Then I downloaded some anti-spyware software from ZDNet, but when I try to run it it tells me I'm missing a .dll file, so I'm still working on the problem.

The last version I saw of Morpheus had the same spyware stuff too. Also a route for viruses. Some people probably have nuthin to do all day but think this stuff up like that Winamp ( ? ) / stealthbomb stuff, or code red or spyware or whatever. I recently saw some privacy issues with Realplayer, too. The bottom line line I suppose is to investigate anything we install beforehand in case there's a catch ( that DivX Gain junk woz 1 helluva system hog with me ) & keep the virus definitions up to date. Amazing how we install stuff sometimes no questions asked when you think about it but then we're all green at one time or another, eh? Anyway, maybe you guys already knew that about Morpheus but there you are.

    Stay clean......

Yeah... what everyone else said. Don't use Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite.

After removing using the add/remove programs applet in the control panel, I use a program called adaware, which can be downloaded from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ . You can download periodic definition updates for it. It scans your file system and registry for spyware components.
