  I am interested in how our personalities change depending on the situation and the relationship with the one we are interacting as I believe these factors weigh heavily. Do you think that someones conversation style can be different than there personality type or is it all linked or situation dependant?

  In Steven Hassan's book, Combatting Cult Mind Control, he asserts that the Kiersey test is very accurate, and the only changes that will occur are if you come out of a cult. I know a man who was very into these tests back in the '90's and he went from an "I" to an "E" after leaving the dubs.

  I am ENFJ. I keep taking the test hoping to get rid of the "J" part, but it keeps showing up. Damn! (judgmental)

  I was the same type as a JW too, so not everyone will change.

  Essie, we are the opposite of each other................Dave is the same type you are, so that explains why you and I connect so well.

  Ack! Don't get rid of that "J"! It means you organize the outer world according to your values and I suspect what you value is the happiness of others! (I teach this stuff, so I hope you can trust me on this!)

  At 16, INTP--at 40, INTP but now much less introverted, much less aloof, much more in touch with my 'gut feelings' and the feelings of others....

  Keirsey calls the 'test' a 'temperament sorter' and shows that even though we each have a basic temperament category that we fall into, that by no means defines who we are or are to become as an individual.

  My exwife, beckyboop, is an ENFJ through and through, but often came out ESFJ when around her Witness girlfriends...

  ENFJ is the perfect complement to INTP, and in many ways we got along incredibly well. --A couple should always match in the S/N category: S-S or N-N, since that is our 'worldview'-- We knew a couple of ENFJ men in the borg too, and even though they seemed to be hotheads, I always enjoyed being around them.

  My partner is a classic INFJ which is also rare in a man, and in our case, this is the perfect match!

  I'm an ISTJ, which according to one of those sites is:

  ISTJs are often called inspectors. They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially in their area of interest and/or responsibility. They are noted for devotion to duty. Punctuality is a watchword of the ISTJ. The secretary, clerk, or business(wo)man by whom others set their clocks is likely to be an ISTJ.

  As do other Introverted Thinkers, ISTJs often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. Effusive expression of emotional warmth is not something that ISTJs do without considerable energy loss.

  ISTJs are most at home with "just the facts, Ma'am." They seem to perform at highest efficiency when employing a step-by-step approach. Once a new procedure has proven itself (i.e., has been shown "to work,")the ISTJ can be depended upon to carry it through, even at the expense of their own health.

  ISTJs are easily frustrated by the inconsistencies of others, especially when the second parties don't keep their commitments. But they usually keep their feelings to themselves unless they are asked. And when asked, they don't mince words. Truth wins out over tact. The grim determination of the ISTJ vindicates itself in officiation of sports events, judiciary functions, or an other situation which requires making tough calls and sticking to them.

  His SJ orientation draws the ISTJ into the service of established institutions. Home, social clubs, government, schools, the military, churches -- these are the bastions of the SJ. "We've always done it this way" is often reason enough for many ISTJs. Threats to time-honored traditions or established organizations (e.g., a "run" on the bank) are the undoing of SJs, and are to be fought at all costs.

  This is..um...rather accurate actually. Don't f*$^ with my balance sheet!

  kgfree - That book sounds great! I love the title. Good spin in the "j" part I'll keep it in mind.

  Mulan - hee hee - I hear ya about the "j" part but after what kgfree said it actually doesn't sound so bad
