Living near nuclear power plants

Do you think that nuclear power plants are safe, either from terrorism or malfunctions?

I live about 10 miles from the only nuclear power plant in Quebec. Every now and then they talk about either closing it down or upgrading it.

Would you mind living close to a nuclear power plant? At what distance from the power plant would you start to feel uncomfortable?

I live 30 miles away from one. Is that why I have six toes?

    IronGland,

I remember a story a few years back where many children at birth had many physical abnormalities and they were living right near that nuclear power plant.

Not being within harmful range of a nuclear power plant, I will not offer my opinion...

But, it makes me think,,,,,, would I feel ok if I were???

    I shall watch the posts.......................

I live within 20 kms. of probably one of the largest nuclear power stations in the world. It's just east of me in Pickering, Ontario. It's on the shores of Lake Ontario.

There's another one past it called: Darlington.

The so-called safe and efficient CANDU reactors are not so perfect afterall.

The province is going to be starting up one that had been shutdown for sometime: Bruce Nuclear Plant on the shores of Lake Huron.

I do not believe that these sources of power are safe. One screw-up, and our half lives will be halfed alright. Toronto will glow in the dark for centuries.

Rayzorblade will be long dead, but radioactive for eons.

It's a catch 22 situation at present, simply because they do exist, and...well...we are all consumers here of electricity.

Just a side note. The biggest polluter in the lower Great Lakes region: Ontario

Yup, the Canadians are guilty as hell. If we aren't spilling raw sewage in Lake Ontario (Toronto), or billowing tons of fossil fueled emissions into the atmosphere: we're helping to turn Lake Ontario into heavy water (h3o). I hope it never happens, but accidents do and can happen.

Went off on a tangent there, but had to add my two cents.

It's also built on a fault line. Have a nice day!
