What do you believe happens after death?

I could do so much with that question, but I'll be serious instead.

I die. My body is returned to dust.

However, my potentially immortal soul is retained by the indwelling spirit of God who gave it, the one Jesus was referring to when he said, "The kingdom of heaven is within you."

Additionally, a transcript of my life containing all values and experiences I attained during my first life here on this planet is retained by a certain cosmic being of the order so charged.

At the time of my resurrection, when my "name" is called, the indwelling spirit which holds my soul, and the referenced cosmic being who holds the life transcript are assembled. The spirit retakes its place in my heart/mind and the transcript of my former life*, held by the cosmic being, are joined in a new, less material, more spiritual body (made of the "better substance" referred to by John), and Bingo! there I am ready to begin the next life of learning and spiritual growth on the next level of being right where I left off on earth. This transaction on the border of the spirit life happens - as far as my own consciousness is concerned - as of the same instant as my death. Thus I am not aware of dying and I am not aware of the passage of time. I "will not see death" just like The Master said.

This process continues for life after life, in universe after universe, until after ages I am finally prepared to stand in the center of all things to face the Universal God in His three distinct, but equal and united manifestations. Neat, huh? My personal belief is that this is what will happen to you too, regardless of your religious affiliation, but only depending on your desire to survive and your willingness to seek to do the will of the Father to the best of your personal ability as measured by nothing but your own ability and certainly not by any human agency outside of you. Perhaps, every once in a while, someone fails of survival. I feel this is a rare event. Maybe Hitler didn't make it. It's not my job to judge who will and who will not.

    I can't wait.

*Which I assume is some sort of hologram, my mind transcript providing the interference signal and the Infinite Spirit providing the reference signal.

Yeesh Bradley! You're starting to sound like Dr. Spock.

What happens after death? I have no desire to find out!

From all I have seen in this life, which is all I can use for reference, we are dead, just like a tree, animal, star or whatever. It would be nice to be able to exist in another life but it is just a hope some have.

But what do I know except this earthly existance, and I don't understand it to well, so the possibility does exsist. Make your own hope, it might give you a little peace.

The KEY WORD here is "Believe".While it is interesting to hear what the different Beliefs are ,they are simply that," Belief Systems."If the Bible is to be believed, you pass over from death to life immeadiately,IF,you are a Christian.

Is there any outside proof of this, ( with the exception that Jesus was Risen from the dead, according to the Bible? )????????????????

As to what I believe,it really does not matter.I used to believe what the Catholic Church taught,Heaven if good,Hell if bad. Then I used to believe what JW'S taught, asleep untill the Resurrection/ with a Thousand Years to become perfect, tested, then annihilation or everlasting life.

Now ,I don't believe in any belief system or know what happens after death to us.

I am facinated by Francois's response. Sounds very logical. Never thought that much into it as he has, but very interesting. If that is what happens, that should be very exciting.

From what I have read in the bible, I do believe we are destined for heaven. What is heaven exactly? I don't know. I am sure that it is awesome, and consists more than just sitting around with wings.

I don't really believe in a burning hell, as I don't believe a loving God would torture us.

Anyone considered this: we have doubled life expectancy in a hundred years.

Who would have believed you if you told them that 100 years ago? They would laugh.

We will double life expectancy again in the next 100 years.

We have also just completed mapping the human genome which is leading allready to huge steps in drug therapies to prolong life.

In a sense, man is cheating death. In the distant future, people will be so much more interested in pronging it instead of what happens "after".

Do you believe that you had a previous life before this one?

Yes, but then I got married and ceased to have a life, which I exchanged for a wife.

I think it is interesting that it is a tenet of all religions the world over that there is life after death,....or the potential for life after death. It doesn't matter if the religion is Christian, Islam, Buddhism or some primitive religion of the ancient peoples of South America. Why is that? Is it that man just can't accept that there could be nothing more?

I do not think it is so awful to imagine that there is nothing after death. If there is no consciousness it would be like being asleep. No fear, no pain, no knowledge of the passage of time. I can live with that prospect for myself. I hope there is more though, for the children who never had a chance to grow up.

ballistic, I have looked at death records from the 1800's and there were people who lived life spans comparable to today. However, the records were interspersed with alot more unlucky people who didn't live out their lives to their potential length. Who caught Scarlet Fever or Whooping Cough, or had a bad appendix or stepped on a rusty nail or died giving birth. I don't think our life spans today are unnatural, more of us just live out our full potential lives.
