Coltrane, I should have known. God, his saxaphone would make walking even more unsteady...lol Have you noticed how similar the look that they have in the eyes. Its uncanny. I have 'A Love Supreme', and it is. Bought my first copy in LP as a nipper and have it still. Very collectable these days.
How deep does your Jazz go? - we might start a club here!

Not very deep, sir. As a native New Orleanian, I'm ashamed. I grew up in the neighborhood on the site of Storyville, the place where Jazz supposedly was invented. I am currently in the process of familiarizing myself with the artform. Coltrane stands out to me. His playing has a mystic pull that draws you. I do have a Coltrane and Davis callabo, called Straight No Chaser. I dig it.

Indeed. You must treasure that thing.
Bigboi,
I do, Coltrane and Mcoy Tyner were chemistry to the stars and consitently proved it.
Try Harold Land, the work he did with Bobby Huthcherson has been unequaled. Also, John Handy ( especially 'New View' if you can get it ). Handy did a superb live version of 'Naima' on this album, but on alto sax. I was privileged to have been in the audience when it was cut. I am the fellow who claps the loudest....lol Another absolute must is Booker Ervin, one of the most underrated tenor sax player of the past fifty years.
If you get to British Jazz ( Americans invented itm the Brits perfected it....lol ) try The Mike westbrook Big Band, especially 'Marching Song' with John Surman on soprano, and if you dare Don Rendell, imho one of the top five tenor players in the world, a beautiful man and a JW to boot!

Very deep. I'm a Jazz Pianist. I love and listen to people like: Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Bill Evans, Keith Jarret, Mcoy Tyner, Monk, Mulgrew Miller, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Ahmad Jamal just to name a few. I don't listen too much to Advant Garde. I'm more into bop, swing and contemporary styles. I spend most of my time transcribing Jazz Pianist's. Tho, Its also good to transcribe Jazz Sax Player's as well. Kinda helps you to get that right hand horn line thing going in your solos. I think Art was a genuis and nobody can swing like Oscar.
Merc'
Mecurious?,
Well done. With horizons like that to aim your musical life at, how can you go wrong - all the right people! I have met Jarrett a few times, one major talent and one major pain in the nether regions....lol Believe it or not I once commissioned a musician to transcribe the whole of the Kohln Concert into Jazz guitar for for me - he nearly died of frustration...lol
There are two British Jazz pianists that you may not know who are really worth listening to. Stan Tracey and John Taylor. They never cease to amaze me. Pat Metheny's player, Lyle Mays is a fellow worth watching to.
Keep well - HS
