Going door-to-door by himself or with a "chaperone" that probably won't have a clue about his background.

I would guess that since his name is printed in the newspaper, people in that congregation will know about him.

Thi Chi....I have many friends that work at Atascadero state hospital. NO...they cannot be rehabilitated.Once they get the "taste for blood" there is no going back.

Is that your expert medical opinion?

What do you propose be done instead?

I know I certainly don't know more than the fellows who have worked to rehabilitate him, so until then I can't rightly criticize. All I can say is that I'm glad he's not being let loose where I live (although I'm sure others have.)

    Sex Offender Wants Martinez Release

    Ann Notarangelo

A judge has cleared a violent sex offender for release this Friday, even though his treatment team insists he is still a danger.

The public defender for Cary Verse, 32, said his client was issued a conditional release. But Friday, a judge will review the circumstances of the case.

Verse has been convicted of raping three young men. He has been under treatment at Atascadero State Hospital for the last several years, and has undergone chemical castration. Now Verse wants his freedom, and he's asked to live in Martinez.

A seven-year-old state law says as long as two psychologists don't think a patient is a risk, he can be set free. If Verse is released Friday, he will be the first to be granted a release under the provision.

But Verse's own doctors, the state mental health workers, and the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office say he's still a danger to society.

"Looking at his history, he's never been able to avoid re-offending for any substantial length of time," said DA Bob Kochly. "I don't think that even chemical castration necessarily assures us that he's not going to act out on urges."

In Friday's hearing, the judge may decide to change or delay his decision on the conditional release.

A definite contradiction there. Perhaps he won't get out then.

Is that your expert medical opinion?

No.... it is the expert opinion of many medical experts that work at Atascadero state and have seen many times over people let out and reoffend.

What do you propose be done instead?

I propose they get the death.

What do u propose be done??

I would guess that since his name is printed in the newspaper, people in that congregation will know about him.

Yes they will know about him but this won't stop them from going out in service with him. Before you ask how do I know...because I have seen it first hand.

I know I certainly don't know more than the fellows who have worked to rehabilitate him, so until then I can't rightly criticize. All I can say is that I'm glad he's not being let loose where I live.

Yeah ...your right ...as long as it doesn't happen in our neighborhood or anyone that we know ...who cares about kids we don't even know...

California recently began using chemical methods to reduce convicted offenders' sex drive, sometimes called chemical castration. But some German experts say it is not the sex drive that causes the crime in the first place. "Research shows ... it's aggression against women, children or whoever is concerned. They want to humiliate, debase their partner ... because that's what excites them," Christian Pfeiffer, the director of a Hanover criminal research institute, told German Radio.

I don't quite know. I'm not a doctor, psychologist, lawmaker or anything related and only know a small amount about this compared to an "expert."

Yes they will know about him but this won't stop them from going out in service with him.

Probably not. I can only hope the elders would do everything within legal means to keep the children he may come in contact with safe. It would be great if they would tell him pick some other type of service besides door to door. But I doubt that would happen. In any event, he may not get out, so this is all moot.

Yeah ...your right ...as long as it doesn't happen in our neighborhood or anyone that we know ...who cares about kids we don't even know...
Unfortunately that is the way the world turns. I am in no position to do anything about this man's release. If it was my backyard, I may be motivated to switch my priorities around. But for now, I can only trust that the local citizens there will handle the matter. Please do not insinuate that I am less than ethical...because the return argument would be if you are so altruistic, why aren't you travelling the world building orphanages? We can all do more to help others, but it has to be balanced with helping our own families and our own well being.

    Oh, no!!! I hate this.

Thi Chi "...what do you do with people like these? Is it the "unforgivable sin," to be locked up forever, or should there be a chance of rehabilitation?"

Each and every child molester I've ever spoken with (when employed by the Georgia Department of Corrections), every one I have seen interviewed on television, or read their interviews in magazines have all said the same thing, and that is: Don't ever let people like me out of jail. We're going to molest and possibly kill again. I've thought of nothing but molesting again ever since I've been in here and if you let me out I'll do it again. Rehab is a joke. Any molester who claims to have seen the error of their ways and who is a new man is lying, saying what the shrinks want to hear so they can get out and get back to the kids.

Not only that, but child molesters cannot be kept in the prison general population. The life span of a child molester from the time he enters the prison main gates until he almost makes it to his cell is measured in minutes. Hardened criminals, murderers, arsonists, murder for hire made men, bank robbers, assault artists, and even litterers will not tolerate a child molester in their presence. These guys have to be kept in special lockups just for them. Yet the general citizen population must tolerate their presence because some lefty idealist thinks it would be a good ideas, and oh so compassionate.

Well, leftys, you can place the compassion where the sun never shines. Our children are far too precious to risk in your idealism gone berserk social experiments.

How do you mothers on this board feel about this? How many innocent children will be molested or killed as a result of this experiment? And isn't it interesting that these guys, who do little more than watch TV and who can be assumed to have seen Dateline, now want to be JWs? Warms the cockles of me heart, whatever they are.

I say lock 'em up in the general population and let down and dirty justice take place.

Thanks for the reasonable replies. Situations like this make me feel so helpless in regard to protecting greater good.....It seems that this problem is only getting worse............

You must think that these"experts" always or most of the time make the right decision? Wonder how many "experts"set a pedo free to reaffend?

I can only hope the elders would do everything within legal means to keep the children he may come in contact with safe

Yeah...they have a real good track record for protecting children

We can all do more to help others, but it has to be balanced with helping our own families and our own well being

    Point well taken

You must think that these"experts" always or most of the time make the right decision?

No not really. But I don't have the time or energy to gain enough knowledge to refute them.

I think if I had to make a choice, mine would be close to Francois' (despite his tendency to pin everything as either left or right.) I'd probably say lock them up with the general population in prison and let them fend for themselves.

I'm wondering if this man was one of Jehovah's Witnesses before being convicted or if he converted while in custody. Anyone know?
