I have no idea what happened, but I was rebooting my computer, and got an error message that a file needed to load Windows, could NOT be found. Where did it go?

I messed with this damn thing for an hour and finally just restored it. It would only open in safe mode, which allowed me to save some things, like my Money files, but I couldn't print or save my address book AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

So, if anyone is so inclined, will you send me an email, so I have your addresses again. This is getting so frustrating. [email protected]

Might be worth doing a full backup rather than relying on system restore until you find what's causing it? Do you know if it is always the same error when it happens and if so what file is it? Have you had other non-essential files become corrupt where the PC still boots? Have you tried just re-installing Windows over the top of the old one when it happens?

You may need to do a low-level format and check for bad sectors etc ...

I can also recommend some of the drive imaging tools that let you restore your system form an image - it's much faster that reinstalling everything, driver, apps etc ...

Hi Mulan, I bought an iomega 40 gb external hard drive that just plugs into a usb port and I back up my whole c drive every night. Plus I have a cd-rw burner to back up files and run go-back as well. When I am working on a new project, I set the external hd to back up every 15 minutes. I never have to worry about missing files if I have a problem. Happy restoring, Gary

    Wow Gary, every 15 minutes???

Do you mean run a full back up every 15 minutes? My backup takes 12 hours to run on my home PC and the company I work for (one of the biggest companies in the world) only sees it necessary to back up each night.

    Ballistic,

I'm NOT pretending! I have a 15 year old hacker who fixes all my computer problems for food!! hehe. I'm trying to talk him into coming with us this summer to e-man's bbq next month. Hopefully we'll see you there!

I finally got it all back, minus my address book. I back up to my CD's but hadn't been good about it for two weeks. I back up the money program faithfully though.

It took all afternoon. Thanks for the emails, those who sent me one.

    Joy............still waiting.

Ballistic, The program only backs up changed files. Yes, I back up all changed files on C drive every 15 minutes as I work on a new project. Normally I back up every night. Once the original backup is made of all files on C drive, from then on it copies only changed files. That nets me a mirror image of C drive.
