Why Witnesses are Zealous - a Dark Reason.

You can certainly become obsessed with any religion. I believe the problem here is that the WTS encourages and exploits this sort

    of behavior.

Want the greatest proof of all that Witnesses are obsessive- compulsive?????

YOU....... ME.......EVERYBODY ELSE ON THIS BOARD! It's damned hard to break old habits, isn't it? Whether zealous

for the 'truth' or against it, the obsession continues!

I have to laugh at myself and other x-dubs. It's a little like Frankenstein killing his creator. They made us this way!

You summed it up perfectly. I sit here, hour after hour, rising in rankings, studying how many posts I've made, how many posts Farkel has made... look how many people complained when Simon instituted posting limits!!!

I keep analyzing my damned ex-religion. Maybe that's why I can't completely break free?? Although I do enjoy my association with you fellow vomit-loving dogs!

Met, I don't think that your statement PROVES anything. The majority of those that post here do not always post. So they must not have OCD and I must? I think people are people no matter what their religion is.That's not to say that there aren't a lot of crazy Witnesses and exes too.

The reason we write our names over and over again is to look like we are paying attention because we are too bored out of our mind to really pay attention.

EXACTLY!!! Those boring talks by those boring brothers ... my god ... no originality. Just bla bla bla!

    Metatron:

Please don't get me wrong. Most of your posts are valuable because they give a secular basis for hope. But some of us had better start substantiating our statements or we are just building another unsupportable structure.

A little semantic self-discipline is needed.

Suppose the suicide, schizo, bi-polar, rate is higher among JW's than the general population. Is that a negative? Does that mean that these problems are caused by JWism? Or do these alienated people connect to something that may even help them "belong"? Aren't these the type of people that Jesus attracted?

Does Walmart exploit people who crave routine and structure? When I hire people I want those who are a little on the structured predictable end of the spectrum. Actually most people tend to be stable, boring, etc. otherwise society couldn't exist.

Collectively it's a type of OCD - with OCD people's "stop" function doesn't work properly, that'a why the pharmaceutical therapy for OCD is anti-depressants (stimulators), to keep neuroprocessing for finishing a thought / action.

Most people are able to 'disassociate' thoughts once acertain event / action has taken place or passed - eg. when the world doesn't end.

Amazing that some of you want to trivialize this religions (jw) complicity in manufacturing an environment of pure cultic neurosis in all, I SAY ALL ,of it's members.

Just ask any active jw how they feel about missing attendance at any one of the five meeting proscribed. Just ask any 5 to 10 year old how they feel if they don't place the required amount of magazines or hours, while engaging in door to door. Just wish any jw a happy 'pagan' holiday, and see for yourself neurosis blossom in the eye's or the repressed body language required to weasle out of the uncomfortable response jw's know they should make, but just end up saying 'thank you' to nullify the mindwarp.

Tell me how as a 9yr old curious boy, I was hauled before a committee of 3 big hulking overseer's because I was caught peeking through the bathroom window, while a very attractive sister was bathing. Yeah I had a glimpse for the first time in my young manhood of 'real breasts'....these men made me feel like I had committed the unforgiveable sin. In fact that one experience set the stage for the next 20 years of sexual repression and anxiety. What should have been a simple slap on wrist, don't invade another's privacy, turned into a very dark and fearful anxiety about all things sexual.

Think about the millions of young men and women who must deal with thier natural desires relating to masturbation, tell me they are not ruined by this draconian religion's take on the subject.

Tell me that each and every sincere jw, who doesnt underline the watchtower before the Sunday meeting, doesn't try and avoid sitting next to an elder.

Tell me the little teenager who viewed his first pornography on the net, or went to see an R rated movie doesnt suffer incidious pangs of guilt.

Tell me that in almost every facit of life a jw doesn't have to evaluate or way the cults stand on whatever life course he/she might be considering.

If you can answer all of the above with..'well thats just human'...well thats just like another religion..then you have just excused the unexusable. Shame on you.

Dannybear, Use most of your examples and substitute JW's for parents. If your mom and dad caught you doing a "peeping tom", how would they have handled it? If your parents caught you downloading porn off their computer, how would they react? Forget about what religion a person is for a moment. My point is that you can't blame OCD on being a Witness. Most people that have such sicknesses are not JW's. Does being a JW help a person that has these types of mental or psychological problems? I very much doubt it. But it's not the sole reason either.

Meta - another very good, thought provoking post. Many good replies (Lady Lee, Danny Bear etc) that will require a second read when my brain is more alert. In my 40 years, I saw a lot of those characters at the hall and in my own family.

Got a chuckle too about the 14 year old Barbie who wrote her name over and over again. I would write the name of my girl friend, or someone I met at an assembly that caught my eye, throughout my bookstudy publication. Forgot about that.

Prolog wrote: Suppose the suicide, schizo, bi-polar, rate is higher among JW's than the general population. Is that a negative?

I would have to say YES - that is a huge negative. What an incensitive remark. Jerk...
