We don't have enough schools here, and then they are mostly Afrikaans!
Yeah really what's up with that.
Sorry but, your mom sounds like a pompous jack-ass. Something my mom would say.
Heartless, stupid, idiotic, comments they would make. Geesh

What a load of horses***. Lovely. Thanks for helping, mom! Thanks for fulfilling that scrupture of "no natural affection". LOL Good for JWs.

I am sure this letter to your new wife reassures how welcome she is to the family and how loving they are to you. NOT
If I had received a letter like this, I would have needed medical attention. This letter and the letter from Inky's son only further to solidify my belief that the God of the JW's is Watchtower Brooklyn.

On all major issues, jw's are programmed exactly as to what to say. The words they mouth are composed in new york, the wt headquarters. Thought isn't desirable, natural motherly feelings are crushed.

Hmm seems Mom doesn't know anything about her religion or who you are dedicating yourself too
Believe me, I'm not sticking up for the mother-in-law at all ... I HATE shunning, it's disgusting. But, to clarify the word AFRIKAAN, I think she meant they weren't going there because of the 'language' difference.....
Afrikaans is one of the youngest Germanic (e.g. English, German, Dutch, and the Scandinavian) languages. Afrikaans originated in South Africa about 200 years ago. Currently about 80 million people worldwide speak Afrikaans. Most Afrikaans speakers live in Southern Africa and Namibia. Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, USA Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are some other countries where Afrikaans speaker live.
Afrikaans has been one of South Africa's official languages for over 50 years. It is not a black African language. Though it is mainly
a white language it is not class-biased. Afrikaans is closely related to Dutch, and has been influenced by French, English and Malay. It was used in print as early as 1850
Letter from new wife to mother:
Dear Mom,
thank you so much for your letter, I really appreciate seeing just exactly where you and all the other judgemental people let (insert name of husband) down. I certainly will try to gain wisdom and insight from your poor example of conditional love. I do not want to make the same mistakes you have made! How terrible for you to live with this weight on your heart. It took great courage to write it down for me so I will not also hurt the one I love most in the world like you did. I can't thank you enough for such a sacrifice of humility in your admission of failure. But please remember that no matter how far off from God's eternal love you get, you can always go home to Him. He has not failed any of us in His Parental duties! I want you to know that you are welcome anytime in our house despite your cruelty and blind adherence to a man-made cult.
Agape,
(insert name of new daughter-in-law)

Ravyn,
Such Blasphemy!!! How could you speak such things!!!
LOL, Just Kidding.
CraigSA Welcome to the board.
Thanks to Double Edge for clearing up the Afrikaan remark. I don't think Craig's mom intended any racial slur there.
He was very involved in a number of activities at school and got a lot of recognition for them. It was through his involvement with Debating, that Derrick and I became adjudicators in the Inter-Schools Debating Competition. We really enjoyed doing that, but had to stop when we moved up here. We don't have enough schools here, and then they are mostly Afrikaans! Did Craig tell you about the play he and I wrote for the Interhouse Play Festival? We wrote it, he produced and directed it, and it won First Prize. We wrote a sequel the next year and of course, won again. I think the year after that he was in Matric, and was not eligible to enter, but the fun and fame was great while it lasted!
Craig. That is one helluva lot of extra curicular activity there. Something that is usually frowned on by the WTBTS. Yet your family and you were very involved in this, and she sounds quite proud of it.
Can she really be that zealous of a jw, or does she play by the " 2 rules " book?
Also, mom closed off by saying:
I do hope this helps you to understand a bit better.
I've been on both sides of the fence, and your mom's explanation was lacking, big time. Did your wife get any sense of what she was trying to explain?
How does baptism, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, prevent you from attending another religion, that likely baptizes their followers in the same manner?
Perhpas your mother should be truthful to your wife and explain that the JW dedication questions have been altered to "pledge allegiance to God's spirit directed organization " , as the governing body likes to refer to themselves as.
