  The Watchtower states: "Paul wrote about some in his day: 'Their word will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of that number. These very men have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already occurred; and they are subverting the faith of some.' (2 Timothy 2:17, 18; see also Matthew 18:6.) There is nothing to indicate that these men did not believe in God, in the Bible, in Jesus’ sacrifice. Yet, on this one basic point, what they were teaching as to the time of the resurrection, Paul rightly branded them as apostates, with whom faithful Christians would not fellowship.” (WT 01. April 1986, p.31 [emphasis mine])

  Yet in 1919 -- the year in which the Society claims they were chosen by the Lord and appointed over all his belongings (WT, 15. March 1990, p.15) -- they were still teaching that the resurrection had begun in 1878 (WT 01. May 1919, Reprints p.6426), which view they continued to hold until 1927, and which view they now admit was false. I wonder if your husband really believes that Jesus would have placed over all his belongings an organisation that by its own admission and by its own published standard would be ‘rightly branded apostate’, “with whom faithful Christians would not fellowship.”

  There no question that leaders of the WTS such as J Rutherford (1919) declared his organization chosen by god as a means to validate the work the IBSA were doing in publicly distributing the literture Rutherford wrote and published while being the excutive head writer for the WTS.

  Jesus has returned and a new world order was to appear was a great proclamation to make in proliferating literature.

  If anything it was a great exploitation of the basic belief in the Bible already set in the public’s mindset, commercailly advantageous perhaps but not based from truthful and honest bible interpretation.

  In 1919 not only was the WTS teaching a wrong date for the resurrection, they were also teaching that Pastor Russell was the Faithful and Wise Servant. Rutherford and the Society's directors had no idea that they were the first FDS: that was left to revisionist mythology of the 2012 governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  Depending on the personality of your partner, a point by point debate could take a long time and end up devolving until you are mentally exhausted.

  There is no easy answer because even if he agrees on some points, it may always come back to whether you believe the wts is gods appointed channel.

  Spirits, angels, devils and gods always where, and still are only fictional characters of human imaginations.

  There is nothing (excepting education) to stop the inventing of a god and declaring some as "chosen people".

  Mt. 10 has traditionally been used to explain how a household would be divided when someone chose to follow Christ, not Disfellowshipping.

  When the Jews rejected Jehovah, he rejected his organization. Their house was abandoned to them as I recall. He dropped the whole organization, not the bad apples on their own.

  Why wouldn't he do the same with the JW organization?

  You might point out that any religion that has these problems (example: Roman Catholic church) could give the same excuse...

  "Sure, we have problems but so did Israel... King David committed adultery and murder, etc... doesn't mean we're not his organization..."
  

  Doctrinal issues? "Hey, the light gets brighter and brighter as we go along. If we make mistakes, God will correct us because we're his organization..."

  That "light" that keeps getting brighter and brighter also loves to flip flop around like a fish out of water. At one time in time you can get disfellowshipped for one thing, and then later on it's not a disfellowshipping offense. One of the biggest would be rape that they flipped around over the years on. And this is not the only thing, their history is full of different examples, and also issues where young JWs would go to prison in one location, while in a different location there would be a workaround so as not to go to prison. These are just a few examples, you can find a ton of information dealing with this. Also if a JW teaches stuff that they taught back in the 1980s, they would consider that very same teaching apostasy today.

  But yes, they have proven themselves time and time again to be false prophets - Deuteronomy 18:21-22.

  This was the argument I used:

  This was a discussion point I had with my wife. But, I think it is really better to not discuss doctrine. They cannot see the other side of an issue.

  Prior to the outpouring of Jehovah's holy spirit his followers made all sorts of mistakes and had disagreements about what was correct, even the apostles (read the threads on circumcision). But, once the holy spirit was poured out that stopped. The organization claims Jehovah's holy spirit is active upon it, therefore they shouldn't have to change doctrine or make the mistakes like the Israelites made.
