Note from the Convention - Saturday

The opening talk again discussed taking notes, but this time recomended all to take brief notes to have handy for the convention review in the autumn. Can't make their minds up...

"Removing the veil from those Blinded" We were given instructions to start a bible study on a return visit. This was not just recomendations, but specific procedure to be used. This is the same as the kingdom ministry's, which now give specific introductions to by used for the magazines. Is this because they don't trust us not to say what we think? Or do they not want to let the householder steer the conversation to matters which could make them uncomfortable.

Doing More. They emphasised that it is possible for each and every one of us to more in the truth, its just a matter of motivation. Jehovah will empower us to be able to do it, and Satan will do his best to stop us. So if we don't do more, we are being influenced by Satan. Even though we may be depressed because of constant browbeating by the elders, working all hours because we were recommended not to get an education, in an iron lung, or already doing as much as we can, if we don't do even more we are doing Satans will. This point was made several times through the assembly.

Hated Without Cause. There was an experience of 2 sisters with 11 children from Malaysia who refused to buy political cards. They were beaten by a mob for two days, and finally stripped naked in front of them all. They still refused to buy a political card. But I remember reading on here somewhere that mexican? witnesses were allowed to buy them. Can someone confirm this? If so, I wonder if this experience will be used at the Mexican conventions, or what those two sisters would think if they heard about this.

Cultivating a Christlike View of Greatness. The example of Christ washing the diciples feet was used to show that ministers should be lowly, and not look for greatness. But later on the day, and also on the Sunday, youngs ones were encouraged to reach out for priviledges and positions of responsibility, and noted how good this would be to them and what example this would show to others. Isn't this showing to others how great you are, and thus totally different to what was said in this talk? It also counseled not to help some and not others. Thus the organisation confesses at a convention how much 'love' is shown to those not in the 'in crowd'.

Tired, but not Tiring out. "Good teaching actually enhances the bible." So they are making reading their own publications, "Teaching instruments", more important than reading the bible! Is that why in the ministry school on Thursday nights a portion of The Watchtower is used for the reading instead of the bible?

Beware of the Voice of Stangers. Do not attempt to talk to apostates, just flee from them. Is this because they know their reasoning doesn't stand up to close investigation? A young woman I didn't know came up and started chatting to me, but because there was a few people around who did know me, I told her I was DF'd. From the look on her face you would have thought I told her I was a serial killer and she was next.

You also can't believe the media, because they often withhold minow details that make a difference. Apparently, the documentary on the BBC on pedeophiles missed out most of the interview of the governing body member, just leaving the bits when he refused to reanswer questions he'd already answered, thus debunking the whole program. However, they also miss out minor details like being a member of the UN, and that attendant over there is a pedeophile...

Children must also listen to their parents at all times, because even if you live to be 1,000,000 yrs old they will always be older and more wise than you are. So if you are a youg witness you're never going to amount to anything, because everyone else will be older, wiser, and so much better than you.

They used the example of keys, and said at first glance they couldn't be distinquished, but you had to closely examine them to see the differences and find which one was true. But the whole point of his talk was not to examine the other key, just to accept the one that you've got. I've made that mistake before, I didn't realise that I'd picked up the wrong keys until after I got back from a drunken night out in the middle of winter.

One of my friends, who went to a convention, called me this morning to tell me about one of the talks. She said the media only talks to disfellowshipped people so the reports will be distorted and they shouldn't believe them. I told her they talk to disfellowshipped people because when they call Bethel, they won't talk to them, and only send them a dumb videotape. She laughed..........she knows.

It's worse than that. The Mexican Witnesses were given permission to continue bribing officials for "proof" that they had served their time in the military. It's in Crisis of Conscience.

What about on the BBC Paranama documentary, the media were trying to talk to a member of the governing body. This proves tha media DO try to get both sides of the story. The same program showed the societys answer to the media, which I beleive was in video format. So the program did show answers from both sides. Transcripts of the program are available on the net.

It's even worse in Mexico than you speculate, Gadget. In Mexico, the young brothers were allowed, nay, encouraged, to bribe government officials into signing the cartilla, the government-issued cards verifying that the carrier had satisfied their military obligation to the Mexican government.

This was taking place at the very same time that the JW members in Malawi were being forced from their lands, having their crops burned, their wives and daughters raped before their eyes, entire families massacred and every other atrocity you can think of because they refused, at Watchtower insistence, to purchase a Malawi Party Card, which stated that they were members of the party - in a one-party state. The card cost $0.25.

The real outrage here is that when representatives of the WTBTS went to Malawi, they had to have a US passport. Ever examine a US passport? You have to, in effect, swear alliegance to the US government to obtain a US passport. Not a particle of difference between the Malawi Party card and the US passport oath.

Is this not outrageous? AAH, the WTBTS, Center for World Hypocrisy, Concentrated.

    Hi Gadget,

I’m going this weekend, though not DF’d, so I guess I want invoke fear into folks yet

Beware of the Voice of Stangers. Do not attempt to talk to apostates, just flee from them. Is this because they know their reasoning doesn't stand up to close investigation?

I was always disturbed how we as JW's are never allowed to even view apostate info. It seemed hypocritical to me that we can go to their homes and tell them that they should view material that differs from their own religious beliefs, but we were never allowed to do the same against our own beliefs. With my mind freed of late, I began to look at this scripture in a new light:

*** Rbi8 Hebrews 4:12 *** 12 For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart.

Now does the WTS believe that apostate literature is more powerful than the Bible? If not, why can't we view so called “apostate” lit and use the Bible to discern what is false and what is true for ourselves?

It’s interesting how when someone uses Acts 17:10-11 as a foundation for them having the right to examine WTS pub against the bible:

11 Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thes·sa·lo·ni'ca, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so.

That the WTS says, as in the w81 2/15 18 Do We Need Help to Understand the Bible? Beroeans listened with a readiness, yes, an eagerness, to believe. Thus not only were they open-minded, but they were wanting to have this “good news” proved true.

Do they think that any of us that have been in the WTS all of our lives are eager to prove the WTS is wrong and that we have been part a cult all of our lives?

Geesh, that is the last thing any of us wanted.

Well, I typed a rather long synopsis of the Saturday Assembly in the Astrodome in Houston but both times, the post disappeared once I tried posting it.

    I'll not try it again.

Suffice to say that it was full of the same old mind numbing psychobable which sent my BS detector on high alert from the duration of the sessions.

Most interesting was the talk entitiled beware the voice of Strangers where the convention overseer all but declared war o apostates.

95, try it again but type it on Word and store it; then copy that over to the form. I do my reviews that and you can imagine what I would be saying under my breath if I lost that without having it filed somewhere. Pleeeeeese, try again.
