The Story of Teejay and the Kosmokrator
Teejay, a man of valor, approached the cave of Mithras without fear. He entered and walked to the front of the temple, stood before the great bull-slaying the tauroctony of Mithras, then turned and faced the worshipers.
"Men, I Teejay stand here with a word of caution for all who worship Mithras the Kosmokrator. The Great Mithras sol invictus, the unconquered sun, has with his great might driven his dagger into the Bull and has also forced some of the stars of heaven to fall before you. But friends, always remember that though the Great Mithras is a god, in order to stand as mature men we must not lean on the Great Mithras but on ourselves. For, as long as Mithras alone holds over us the sceptor of right thinking we may never learn the art of right thinking for ourselves! Let us put alongside our Great Mithras another god, the god of self-determined right thinking so that we may approach the Great Mithras with confidence in our own right thinking."
Whereupon the temple of Mithras shook and the men became afraid for Mithras himself entered. His face was filled with anger and with his thundering voice said to Teejay, "Who are you to say such things even here in my temple?! I am not a god neither am I a leader, I am only Mithras sol invictus, the Kosmokrator, and all my people think as they wish and speak as they wish and they have no fear. All who know I am not a god stand up and speak!"
The Temple fell silent but then the heavenly constellations came and spoke in the defense of the Great Mithras. "O, Teejay, you young man with no knowledge of what is right thinking. We, the constellations of heaven, all agree with our Great Mithras sol invictus, that your words are not the product of right thinking. We the constellations of heaven know what is right thinking and you do not, for are you not attempting to cast aspersions on our Great Mithras the Kosmokrator?"
Teejay answered, "No great constellations of heaven. I am not attempting to bring calumny upon the Great Mithras but to put alongside him the god of self-determined right thinking so that all here may know that we as men have within ourselves the power of right thinking also. The Great Mithras has right thinking and so do we, O great constellations of heaven. I do not attempt to overthrow but to put alongside."
Whereupon, the constellations of heaven shook and fell before the Great Mithras sol invictus, and cried with a loud voice, "O Great Mithras we the contellations of heaven know right thinking. You are neither god nor leader you are only the Great Mithras, the Kosmokrator, the sol invictus, the bull-slayer, the mover of heaven and earth, but certainly not a god and neither feared nor followed."
With this the Great Mithras smiled and all in the temple bowed before him. Then every man felt certain that all there knew right thinking for were they not all bowing before the Great Kosmokrator just as the great constellations of heaven also bowed?
