Angharad, That must mean you are married to Simon? Sorry, but I'm fairly new to this great board and didn't know. Have a good time?

JanG, thanks for the tip. There are some things I could take for the gastric problems. I'm sure not overeating would help tremendously also! I'm printing out your plan to follow. Any favorite tips or recipes?

I'm going to the store on the way to work this morning to stock up on some 'comestibles' (new word I just learned--just means edibles!) to get me started.

And the exercise thing is good too--start small. Just a little each day. The success, imo, is from being consistent about it. My grandson said 'why don't we go for walks anymore?' So, that'll get me going!

Good luck (omigosh--what we get to say now!) to us all!

    Patio,

Yes, I have several sets of dumbbells at home. Right now I do sets with 5-lb, 10-lb, and 15-lb weights.

I travel about an hour to and from work, so I really don't feel like going out again to go to a gym. Having the weights downstairs really helps. I usually work out about 30 minutes a day, but if I'm rushed or tired, I just do what I can.

I can honestly say that this is the first time I've looked forward to exercising. I've tried before, and just haven't been able to stick with it.

Of course, it helps that my little feral cat, Muggsy, just loves to go with me to exercise. He sits at the bottom of the stairs and cries until I come down.

    Any favorite tips or recipes?

Always cut all fat of any meat .... spend the extra $$ to get really lean hamburger mince and if you
cannot get it lean then get some of the cheaper beef and grind your own .... you can use a food
processor if you don't have a mincing attachment.

I make big pots of Vegetable soup and use stock powder or make my own stock for the base.
You can freeze the soup in meal size portions using those take-away containers. You can change the flavour of the soup byadding spices. I also make large quantities of things like ratatoui? which is eggfruit, capsicum (bell peppers), Zuccini (courgettes), onions, Tomatoes, and garlic to tasted (I love lots) and I also throw in some chopped dill which
gives it a lovely flavour. Again, freeze them in meal size portions.

I also make up lots of stir fry .... I can use a little bit of meat and lots of veges and eat until it
is coming out of my ears .... I just cannot have the rice or noodles. Of course, I use no oils when
I do this, except a little spray oil for the meat.

You can make curries using your own blend of spices so you can leave out the chilli if you want to or
only use a little bit. I love experimenting with these .....

The other day I made a beef curry, using beef and onions and the spices ..... it was beautiful and I
had 2 meals out of it ... I kept it watery so it was like a curried soup.

I keep sliced lean ham or beef in the fridge and I have 100 grams of that with a salad for lunch or
dinner ..... you can have a piece of grilled chicken breast (no fat) or a piece of fish (the ones that
have the Omega Oils in them). We have to make sure we get our essential fatty acids.

Sometimes for breakfast or lunch I will have a 2-3 egg omelette (depends on egg size). I sprinkle a little
parmesen or romano cheese on it for flavour and have it with tomato, onion, capsicum, lettuce etc.

I keep lots of small apples on hand and if I feel a little peckish I will have one of them ..... and
I have lots of watermelon!!!!! Actually, Watermelon and Strawberries we can have unlimited!

    How's that for starters?

RHW, I like that about the weights. I have some here at home that tomorrow morning I will lift up!

JanG, thanks for all the tips and recipes (my mouth is watering). I will be making some of them up this weekend and freeze them. They sound great--and I am especially fond of soups too. Good ideas!

    Wellllllll,

I'm still thinking about dieting. But this thread makes me feel guilty enough to think serious anyway.

I am still losing at the rate of 2 lbs a week. I am glad I kep my smaller bras etc because I am now having to use them. Have to take in the elastics in my pants .... pants fall down at most interesting times if I dont

Next week I am getting a months supply of the liquid meals and going onto them to speed up the process a little.

    Good for you Jan!!! Congratulations!!

I've kept many of my smaller clothes (and bras) in the vain hope that if I lost a kilo or ten, I might be able to fit into them again. I hope it will happen one day soon!!
