I don't think it's entirely fair to label all Jehovahs Witnesses as prejudice. Regardless whether people are associated to one group or another every person makes decisions on their own judgement and merrit.

I think to a large extent most JW's have molded themselves prejudice agaist alot of things in the name of "keeping seperate from the world"

But I have known also alot of Jehovahs Witnesses that "break the rules"

All in all you can't label a people with a statment like calling them prejudice because everyone in this world has that potencial (prejudice) and everyone also has the ability to swim against the current.

No offense I say this for example only run dont walk : I can label you as prejudice against Jehovahs Witnesses. But what point does this all prove ?

    you're right m0nk3y, to a point,

The point I'm questioning, is (maybe prejudice was the wrong word to use) when parents start telling their children who to and who not to associate with, and telling their children that all the kids that are not JW's will die at Armageddon (I heard this a lot growing up). The Watchtower has some serious teaching problems, when you start labelling people that way, what else do you call it ???

And we all know the problem prejudices have caused in the world, children being brought up to kill themselves and as many as they can for their country/religion, is the Watchtower not guilty of the same thing in a round about way. (not the killing part, but teaching it to their young)

What is a child, let's say 8 years old suppose to do, leave home ands move in with Johnny's family who are JW's.

No offense I say this for example only run dont walk : I can label you as prejudice against Jehovahs Witnesses. But what point does this all prove ?

None taken, And you're right I probaly am prejudice against the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses, but I'm NOT teaching my kids this, they decide on their own.

Ok I see the direction your going with this .. or I might be wrong.

So I wonder if the publications are breaking any laws as far as prejudice go .. from what I remember they are fairly wishy washy as to what kind of people they are refering to.

And I completely agree that teaching your children such behaviour is 100% wrong.

Im 100% against the princibles that the Watchtower Bible and Tract society promote.

It's actually a simplictic question DJ. I know my personal answer to the question. I guess it's a posed question to further thought on the subject.

My older sister was dating an Elders son. We were invited to Sunday lunch to meet his family.

During dinner the Elder made a joke about me being the first black person he's met that doesn’t like bananas.

Later on in the evening, he "joked" that if his son married a black person, she'd end up looking like a fat mamma.

Coming from a black family and growing up in a predominately white congregation I can't answer the question of "Are JW's

Prejudice???", but I can say that at least 50% of my congregation were. Maybe its not the same everywhere else, and maybe things have

changed since, but I'll never forget the subtle abuse be encounted on a weekly basis. Espcially from the older members.

I think most items on the list of questions above deal with, as Monk3y pointed out, jws perceiving their actions as 'seperateness from the world'. Is it a prejudice on their part? I guess in a sense it is, because they do in effect pre-judge all things non-jw as being bad or undesirable to various degrees.

A good example is their view of association. We found that, with our child, the non-jws friends she has treat her better and are much less prone to getting in trouble than jw kids have been. And yet, we're told at meetings and in print that jws are the best associates, even though their behavior proved otherwise.

Of course, what xyl1 mentions, and what he also mentioned in Dawn's thread on her son's dating, shows that jws, despite their claims of eradicated racial prejudice, are often just as prejudiced as others.

I can totally see this. Of course, growing up in the South, a lot of people feel that they are not prejudiced, but in reality, most of them are, to some degree. My mother, a witness, always talked about how the Witnesses weren't racist at all, (and I realize you weren't talking about race-I am just using an example) but I remember many times, hearing little jokes being made about many different races. The worst thing, though, I always felt, was the really hateful attitude towards gay people. My mother, who won't say, "That sucks", because it's vulgar, or "pissed off" has no problem at all using the word "fag" or "dyke"-and the hateful tone it's used in is truly horrible, as if that person has no worth or something. I guess I have been in the world too long, but I had gotten used to people being tolerant of others' differences and it's hard to adjust again when I get around my family...And very embarrassing, sometimes, especially in front of my husband, who grew up in LA, with a father in the movie business.

when parents start telling their children who to and who not to associate with,

Don't all parents do that. As a parent you are responsible for your children's actions, therefore you wouldn't want them hanging out with gang members or children who are going to be a bad influence on your kids. However scaring them with the Armageddon thing is going to far.

Are they predjudice? I would have to say yes to the extent that you are asking.
