There has been a law suit against Mc Donalds. Some silly woman sued because Mc Donalds made her kid obese. That is the stupidest thing I've heard.

As for tobacco. I smoked for a while. I noticed I had a cough. I quit. Of course it bad for you. So is drinking. Has anyone sued for getting a beer gut? Or losing their teeth?

    2. It hasn't always been known how bad they were. People that started smoking 50, 60 years ago had no idea and then got addicted before they knew it.

I see a parallel here with the fact that some people got baptised pre-1985 and had no idea that the baptism questions were changed after that to now include and demand their total allegiance to the Borg. Get it? Or, as in my case, those baptised while still a minor had no idea how harmful this "religious addiction" was and before they knew it could be kicked out and shunned (very serious consequences).

    3. The tobacco companies knew how addictive AND how harmful they were, so they should have to pay for the consequences.

The WT CORPORATION is also guilty of lying and covering harmful policies . They should pay.

I think you left out one.

Where did tobacco use come from? The Indians. Has anyone been suing the indians? I think that a lot of the online smoke shops are tax free because they are still owned by the indians.LOL!

Note I said the above only to show how stupid I think the whole thing really is.

For the most part I tend to agree with those that fall on the side that these lawsuits are stupid. No one forces a person to put a cancer stick to their mouth and inhale the smoke, and therefore no one should be blamed but the person responsible for the hand to mouth gesture. Just like McDonalds should not have had to pay for the stupid woman who put the hot cup of coffee between her legs and squeezed - unfortunate to be sure, but her stupidity was hardly McDonald's fault.

I think that the letigious nature of society in general has come out of the fact that these foolish cases even make it to court- people see someone raking in huge monetary awards from sympathetic juries , and they see a possible ticket to Easy Street. The problem I see is that it is too easy to file a law suit. The fact that it is so easy means that the truly legitimate cases end up having to wait years to be resolved because the legal system is so overloaded with the whiners who are looking for a hand out.

Regarding cigarettes and there dangers. We knew long before the Surgean's Gereral warning all about ciggies. Back in the 50's, they were called "coffin nails" by the general public. We were not stupid back then and people smoked at their own risk, and they knew it.

These law suits make me sick. People know full well what they are doing, whether it is smoking or eating a fat burger. Come on folks, take some responsibility for your own life. If you spill a hot cup of coffee on your lap, it is not McDonald's fault. It is your fault, and for a woman to win a law suit against McDonald's hot coffee, just blows me away.

"Along with this freedom comes responsibility. For each and every action that man takes, consequences will follow. He has to take responsibility for each of his actions. Each action negates other possible courses of action and their consequences, so he is accountable for every action without excuse."

That applies to smoking cigarettes and any/every thing else an individual decides to do.
