Had dinner in a resto with a dub friend. He told me the bros were very very concerned about the latest court proceedings concerning Blainville. Seems the WT thinks it might lose. His words reporting an elder’s take "if the outcome is negative this could be very serious". He seems to think other municipalities might follow Blainville's lead. Asked me to pray for a favourable outcome. Thought I would pass this on so all you people could pray also.

For those like me who weren't up to speed on this issue, here is a link to an earlier post giving the details:

People in a town in Quebec, Canada got tired of JW's calling at all hours of the day. So they sought to impose restrictions not on their freedom of speech but on the times they could call. The controversial part to me is the $100 license fee and the restrictions of door-to-door canvassing for the licenseholder to just two months a year.

Is this a restriction of freedom of speech? Or is this a reasonable regulation of overzealous behavior?

I don't see anything wrong with the restrictions. They are a nusiance. What happens when they decide to witness 24/7? The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Heh, like Jehovah's really gonna help them. Yeah. Jehovah's too vengeful.

This is definately a sign of the last days. Jehovah doesn't need his earthly organization anymore, so he's letting it get sued out of existance. The end is right around the corner, and it's not even 1975!

As for my thoughts on this issue, I have no problem with the Watchtower being involved in another court case that they could lose. In my opinion, this is their punishment for years of control and emotionally tearing apart innocent humans, and for protecting pedofiles causing the harm of innocent children.

I really could care less if JWs are the ones being singled out.

Ah. Justice at last. I hope it comes to a national vote on things. Then the witties would have to register just like any other salesman.

As much as I love seeing the Society in trouble, there is virtually no chance that they will lose this case. Personally, I am amazed that it has gotten as far as it has without being thrown out of court.

As for a vote, the Witnesses would undoubtedly lose. However, freedom of speech is not an issue for majority rule. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The principle is designed to protect minorities.

While I agree with the spirit above, the issue at hand is the exercising of this freedom on other people's private property. I absolutely agree that a person has a right to say and think whatever they damn well please, but as soon as they cross into my yard, and ring my doorbell on my porch, I get to decide what kind of behavior they can engage in. Let them 'witness' 24/7 for all I care, just keep it off my property--and if this ordinance restricts the time in which they can be knocking on my door, I say bring it on.

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I wonder if they'll keep preaching no matter what, like the bible instructs, listening to the voice of god rather than men's?

What I find interesting is that this comes from a community, and not state or provincial gov.. If they choose to ignore it, they will actually meet people who have lobbyied this on a local level. It could get ugly if they meet someone who was adamant about it.

I'm sure some of the dubs would be happy to pay $100.00 just for 2 months of door to door....lol

Hmmmm.....can't say I agree with this one. They're not trying to stop the Witnesses from going out in Service altogether, (probably because they know they'd never win that one), they just want it limited as to when they can go to someone's door and bug the living shit out of them over and over and over again.

Personally, I'm glad this is going to court because, personal feelings aside, the Witnesses call far too often on the same people over and over and over again. Service is quantity, not quality and it needs to be limited. There's nothing in the bible that says you HAVE to go out every frigging week, but of course that never made any difference in this religion.

If Witnesses are limited to going out in Service for only two months per year, this will send the boys at Bethel into a MAJOR panic. Not because they care about "worldly" people, but alot of Witnesses will suddenly be freed from the drudgery of weekly Service once they make their two months, and they might actually have some free time on their hands!!

This is their biggest bung-a-boo........not being able to control everybody's life 24-7..........should be interesting to see what happens.
