What doctrines do you still believe in?

Are there any teachings from your JW days you still hold to or at the very least have a soft spot for?

For a long time after we left the JWs, I really wanted to believe in the resurrection, because I had never had the opportunity to say goodbye to three of my grandparents (none were JWs) before they passed away.

I still believe in "whatever a man is sowing, this he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7), only now I call it Karma.

    Scully,

Gal.6:7 does it for me too.

What ended your resurrection hope? I hope we see our loved ones again, perhaps the question should be where, not how.

    Hi

I still believe in Judgement Day, but not as the dubs see it.

I believe in life after death.

    Hi Hamas,

Would love to know your thoughts on judgement day. Are we all written in His book somewhere?

Precisely. I abandoned the JW notion of seeing the dead raised from their graves and being there to greet them. How creepy is that anyway?? That would be almost as traumatic as watching them die. It would certainly be a moment in time that would be etched in your memory. Like a birth, or a death or a marriage - something very significant.

Some things have happened in my life (things I dismissed as a JW) that have now led me to believe that our loved ones never really leave us. Whether that's just my memory playing tricks on me (or a form of mild psychosis ), it doesn't harm anyone and I find comfort in it.

    Scully,

In my mind I always imagined a knock on the door one day and there would be Grandma or whoever. But she would be a young women and i would only recognise her from photos I had seen. Would I still love her as much now, because this would not appear to be the person who helped raise me? So family ties would all take on new forms, but this would be ok because after all, "Jehovah is opening his hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing".

So this is how a doctrine of pleasure can bring pain and confusion. I like your notion that they are always with us, and in many ways as long as we are here, so are they.

    Hi

I think Judgement Day is the time where we are judged before the throne of God, according to what we have done in life, regardless of our faith. I believe in this kind of Judgement, not the one typically displayed by the Witnesses of fire and destruction.

On that day, our life will either count against us or for us.

Oooo! Good question. Had to stop and think...

    Jehovah is god's name? No.

    Paradise earth? No.

Stake or cross? Who gives a shit?

    Hmm....

    .

    .

    .

Oh yeah! No hellfire. The Jehovahs got one right after all.

    What teejay said.

(But isn't Jehovah at least a permissable translation of his name?)
