Watchtower doesn't report on activity in banned countries in their annual reports, or in the text of the old yearbooks, as I recall. Russia was a different situation because it started out as a campaign to retain legal recognition where they had an established presence. So I don’t know if Watchtower will make any statements about the developments in China or go into any detail in their news releases. It’s not necessarily about size either, because there was a news blackout on Cuba for decades, yet when Cuba emerged from under ban they had around 100,000 JWs in that country.

Good point slimboyfat. The JWs are currently banned in Russia and statistics are not always available. However the GB has authorised ongoing reports on those arrested in Russia including names, dates, places, alleged offences, etc. See link below:
https://jw-russia.org/en/prisoners.html
See also news here: https://jw-russia.org/en/news.html
But nothing on China.

Yes it’s not consistent. I can only imagine they reckon they have started reporting on Russia, so they will continue. Whereas there’s a longstanding policy of not commenting on China, or other countries including many in the Middle East.

"Your mission should you be dumb enough to accept it. Is to recruit unwary gullible people in a hostile regime.Should you be caught, the GB will disavow any knowledge of your mission. This tape will self explode in 5 seconds"

It is the opinion of this Procuratorate that the defendants Liu Weiguo, Lin Zaiwu, Li Yifang, Lin Hao, Jiang Xijun, Gao Xinlian, Wang Xiaoqing, Yu Bingru, Zhang Min, Jiang Jinling, Chen Meiling, Fan Tao, Wei Pengfei, Huang Lili, Ma Xiaojun, Yang Hua, Shi Xianhe, and Xu Yanli, under the pretext of Christianity, actively recruited members for the xie jiao organization Jehovah’s Witnesses, repeatedly organized and provided venues to conduct meetings, publicizing and advocating so-called “political neutrality,” organizing and inciting members or others to not carry out citizens’ legal duties, and undermine the laws and regulations of the state. Their actions offended Article 300 and Article 25 of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China. The facts of their crimes are clear, the evidence is real and ample to find the defendants criminally liable for the crime of organizing and using a xie jiao organization to undermine law enforcement, and it is a joint crime. Pursuant to paragraph 1 of Article 176 of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People’s Republic of China, we hereby bring the indictment and invite sentence to be passed according to law.
If you break the law of a country whether you agree with that law or not ,don`t be surprised if your going to be punished for breaking that law .
They knew, or should have known the consequences of their actions .

I have great sympathy for those caught up in this.
Will the gb now send funds or a lawyer to defend them?
or will they tell the r&f to write letters? If they do the r&f should flood the NY commune with letters as to why THEY are not doing anything.

China is a totalitarian state. The law is whatever the party says it is.
