So true - not much fun or initiative nowadays.

. . .the elders are teachers

In my somewhat recent experience before becoming totally FedUp I found that the so-called elders were perfect examples of the saying, "Them as can, DO! Them as can't, TEACH!"

That's not new - in my experience, most elders could kill anything interesting in whatever they were talking about.

The elders' only remaining role, teaching having been effectively abolished and preaching having been reduced to giving out business cards and standing still next to carts, is to keep sending the cash flow (mainly this), and deal with anyone that is not a complete automaton.

It’s certainly getting easier for elders and mini servants

yes you could take a watchtower or congregation book study without any preparation as it’s all just regurgitating what’s on the page

there is a real problem now if not enough appointed men who want to serve. Cost of living crisis has made it worse.

it has to be made very easy these days, even taking the midweek chairman is easy enough. You are supposed to prepare every item in case someone can’t do it but they often just miss it out and finish early

I remember doing that when I was the Elder(tm) that looked after 'the Ministry School(tm)'. I'd ask for a volunteer. The usual bunch would volunteer or I'd cover it off myself.

The material was primary school mentality.

Punk now it’s just skipped, if the person isn’t there and not on zoom or technical problems more likely they just go into the the next item and the meeting finishes that bit early.

Technical problems is always a good excuse “I was all prepared but my internet went down” if you forgot you had an item🤣

That would be living the dream back in my day. Mind you, we had some very self opinionated Elders(tm) that would have use the time to spout their sanctimonious opinions. I remember more than up their own backside Elder(tm) that would do this.

Such small minded men that thought they were more important than they were in reality.

Zoom changed everything it’s all so relaxed now

many on the school don’t come to in person they just do their items on zoom

elders often have an excuse for not coming to meetings think they have COVID or something or just say I’m not sure so to be on the safe side I will stay home again

the only items that can’t be done on zoom are Q&A unless everyone is on zoom and there is no in person which still happens from time to time

A person didn’t turn up, causing the meeting to finish early. That would have never happened in my day.
