Even before that magazine came out in the early 1960`s we were told that our primary school age children would never get to go to High School because the New system would be here by then .
Tell that to my sons grown up child and his child ?

I too suffered from not getting the education I wanted. In summary people should know from the first contact with Jehovah's Witnesses that you should never believe a word they say and never do what they ask you to do. Use your brain instead.
We know that the WT fosters an us-versus-them persecution mindset.
Ironically, as this thread demonstrates, JWs are being hurt -- not by "Christendom," "the world," "opposers," or "apostates" -- but by the Watchtower organization itself.
Witnesses shrug, chuckle, smile, and brush off failed Watchtower prophesies as "old light" and "failed expectations," ignoring the fact that those false teachings have had a severe negative impact on so many, including themselves and their own families.
The same is true regarding abandoned WT directives regarding vaccinations, organ transplants, and blood fractions.
Not only is it people JWs trust the most who are hurting them this way, but when they are told that there is nowhere else to go, JWs trust them all the more...
So sad.
Obviously, one needs to weigh the costs and the benefits of going to college. The most blatant is the mountain of debt you are likely to amass due to college. Back in 1969, college tuitions were modest. Today, it is huge, and there is no guarantee that you will even find a decent job that needs your degree.
Against this, one might weigh the debt you amass from a life of pious-sneering. How much does putting gas in that jalopy you use for field circus cost? What about dry cleaning all those suits (that usually can be washed in the gentle cycle if you have a good iron and you are handy with it)? What about Worldwide Damnation Fund donations? Israel missions? Bringing a family to Israel on one of those idiotic missions can cost as much as going to college.
And yes, there are other ways you can get your education without running up a mountain of debt. Classes exist online, for modest fees. You want to learn a foreign language (except Hebrew, which is, aside for scholars, the stupidest language to learn--they even write backwards)? The Internet has courses you can buy, or you can simply watch YouTube videos (and this can come in handy if you are planning on going to a country where your native language is useless). With Jupiter going into Sagittarius November 8, that is a good time to start learning another language.
You want to learn about science and not pay for some biased texts with a code that will go out of date at the end of the semester? The Internet is full of videos detailing science, including people doing experiments that should not be attempted at home. History? Again, the Internet is full of history lessons that explain why those living by the lies want gone. (Which you will not see in college.) You can take courses (and buy them) on just about any trade you wish to practice.
Or, you can simply read the Asleep! rags and know you have a 4-year college degree's worth of rubbish learned. No practical value. No learning that foreign language you have been meaning to (French, German, or Russian seem to be popular). Where can you learn enough German to get by on for your week in Vienna (where German is the official language) or French for that Paris trip, or Italian for that trip to Rome, or Japanese for that Tokyo trip--from the Asleep! rags? That's right, you can't.
I could have written that original post -- it's my story, too.
If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
Guess what? I'm old.
But HOW MANY TIMES will they get away with repeating this lie?
HOW MANY (OVERLAPPING) GENERATIONS MUST SUFFER?
If you're a "lurker" reading this, or if you're just waking up to TTATT, don't let you or your family be damaged by this Cult's repeated lies!
I was 12 yo when this article was published. While it affected me, I got over it and got an education.
The demonizing of higher education continues unchanged in recent years. They look for every opportunity to include this WTS teaching on broadcasts and meeting parts. It has nothing even to do with the high cost a good education typically involves. They have made it quite clear that even if you were to receive a scholarship, namely the education was free you should still turn the scholarship and the higher education down.
This is truly an insane stance to take on improving oneself in life. It would be regarded as extremely ludicrous from any & all members in the congregation territory and instantly turn that householder off from this bizarre religion just on that viewpoint alone.
BALD EAGLE:
Hard to believe the JW religion is STILL knocking education after all these years! And, it’s not just about “improving” oneself in life, it’s about eating.
I strongly urge any young lurkers reading this to please take notice of the older JWs in the congregation who are still struggling to make a living- when people the same age in the “world” are retired. The body gets tired and breaks down.
I hope your handlers in the religion are not still giving the false impression that somebody there is going to support you! 😂
As time goes by there will be fewer ‘responsible’ people there who would even WANT to put money in an envelope for somebody who never wanted to work!. I was criticized for working..Sorry to tell you this, but it would not be ME putting money in any envelope if I were there! Nope, I’d run in the opposite direction.
So, Lurkers:..Go out and GET your education and training or else you will be out of luck someday!
A lot of us fell for that f*cked up bogus information printed in the Awake magazine. Screwed up a lot of careers!
just saying!
This is the article my JW mother and JW grandmother used to let me know that they would not support me if I went ahead with my plan to enrol in a full time journalism course in the early 1970s. Although I was giving up a dream, I totally believed their warning because the end would definitely come well before I completed my training.
Oh, in the mid-1980s when I finally left the organization, I enrolled in university and over several years, having gained a BA and MA, achieved my Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology.
My victory has been hard won and I can still be aghast at the ugly and arrogant message in that article - especially the words' "If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things." The level of audaciously false prophesying in the article is breath-taking.
And, yes, the ramifications from that article spread down through the decades.
