Well of course the entire concept of new light is a load of Bull. Im not aware of any scriptural backing for the idea except for a scripture in Psalms, which, of course has nothing to do with prophetic interpretation. Its a slender verse around which a huge concept has been woven to excuse saying things in Gods authority which invariable fail to occur. I dont doubt that not a single "prophet" of God has ever made an end of the World prediction that came true. lol. I was watching a National geographic show last night along the lines of whether there are planets surrounding stars out in the universe. Based on her theory, the scientist in charge PREDICTED a string of things that the star she was observing would do, and when it would do them. Score : 100 percent accuracy! Now THAT is Prediction based on "Truth".

You might try discussing flip-flops. A flip flop occurs when the Watchtower changes their teachings to something different. Then later changes back to the old doctrine. for example:

Watchtower Teaching on the resurrection of the men of Sodom and Gomorrah

    1. will be resurrected

    2. will not be resurrected

    3. will be resurrected

    4. will not be resurrected

This is the NT scripture that the WTS will use to back up the 'new light' scripture in Pr:

*** Rbi8 1 Corinthians 13:12 *** 12 For at present we see in hazy outline by means of a metal mirror, but then it will be face to face. At present I know partially, but then I shall know accurately even as I am accurately known.

    JWS,

And what about people who reached certain beliefs before the WTS? Why are they apostates for believing what the WTS eventually came to believe anyway? If that "new light" is actually the truth, then is it possible Jehovah revealed these truths to them before the WTS? And should they still be condemned? If they were in-line with God all along, why were they shunned? The only ones they were not in-line with were the WTS.

Here is what a staunch Jw would say to the above quote: " These ones should still be condemned, because they 'ran ahead' and are 'out of step' with the Society. We have been instructed to follow the direction of the Faithful Slave in ALL matters, for they have been entrusted to supply us with 'Food at the PROPER time'. In keeping with the scriptural admonition to 'Keep the congregation clean', we would still avoid any contact with an individual who displays a spirit of independance by 'assuming' to interpret scripture for themselves, before Jehovah God, through His Faithful Slave, have chosen to reveal it. Such indepenent thinking is condemned in the Bible, and ones who practice such independance, and refuse to 'Wait on Jehovah' are most surely condemned as well".

-Actually, that is more like what a writer for the Watchtower would write in response, but my point is that it does'nt matter what any of us sheep destined for the earthly hope have to say, if the 'Slave Class' says it is so, it IS SO. After all, they are the Mouthpiece of Jehovah God himself. You people really need to get back "in step" with God's Organization.

    Thanks,

    Integ.

Universal laws (truths) of science are proven over and over again through controlled experiments. These laws become common knowledge and all things in life are governed by them and "New Light" does occasionally come in the form of another discovery. The former, even simple, laws do not go away or change ex: gravity, magnetism, water freezing / boiling and many others. Does anyone dispute these? Why even the WT would agree with them. I can't understand the difference, if all comes from god why are the spiritual laws all in dispute and changing while the physical laws are so definite and build from a solid foundation when new discoveries come along? Because these physical laws are constant and will always be. Unless some higher being decides as a joke to put us all on our asses some day by changing things we've known and believed (because they are true) all our lives and calls it new light we can expect a constant, true scientific law.

The WT and other religions will change interpretation and say god made them do it. If god made all the physical laws and does not change them why does he see fit to change the spiritual laws? I guess my answer is I just don't believe any religions interpretations of anything.

Solomon was speaking to his son in Prov 4:18 in context of gaining knowledge and experience as he matures into a man. To use that scripture to cover all blunders means disregarding pretty much the rest of the bible.

C.T Russel as screwed as he was as I'm sure your aware said in the Feb 1881 pg 3 ZWT (New light does not extinguish old light and new truth would never contradict old truth). I guess thats why they hide the old truths.

I wish someone had turned my light on before I got baptized.

The 1980's Watchtower discussed flip flops like the men of Sodom and said we were like sailors tacking in to the wind.

Sometimes an interpretaion might change "SEEMINGLY to the opposite viewpoint."

I don't see how something can only seem to be the opposite. It either is or isn't. I started wondering if now we were meant to knock on doors and say we only SEEM to be saying what you think we seem to be saying. I became conscious for the first time of having my thinking manipulated. The rest is history.

As for someone getting understanding of something before the FDS and being difellowshipped read the story of the WT and the oscilloclast, in which a brother who exposed it as a form of spiritism was disfellowshipped because Rutherford and others were promoting its use and did not want to be embarrassed.

Years later the WBTS came to the same conclusion but did not reinstate the brother concerned.

Fred Franz once testified under oath that if what a brother might be saying is true he could still be disfellowshipped for the sake of maintaining the unity of the Borg. When aked if the stance taken by the society on these matters is arrogant he replied "No."

Maybe someone can remind me of where this case was posted.
